TomTom One - Problems Updating The SD Card
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When trying to either:-
1. Update tom tom one using tom tom home
2. Create a backup by manually copying TT1 content to a new folder on my PC using 'My Computer'
3. Manually copy files from my PC to TT1 using 'My Computer'
4. Formatting the SD card
I get a read or write error something like 'Delayed write error' and it trashes the SD card forcing me to have to format and reload
I think it could be a problem with my PC, as I can format then copy files fine from my wifes work PC.......can anybody help :x |

How are you accessing the card? Is it in the ONE or via a card reader? _________________ Darren Griffin |

via the TT1
Actually I have discussed with one of my learned PC literate friends and he seems to think it is a problem with my PC using a different FAT version that what the SD card is being formatted with.
Can't seem to format using my persona P{C so using the wifes laptop
Could be my PC using FAT32 to read/write files wheras SD card formatted using FAT16??? |

That has no bearing on it. You could be using FAT16, 32 or NTFS (or vene HFS if using an Apple Mac) and it makes no difference so long as you esnure you choose FAT16 when formatting (or FAT as it is often known).
What OS is your PC? The error you describe occurrs when the PC is sending data to the SD card faster than the SD card can write. Is it the standard SD card that came with the ONE? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Windows XP Home Edition
Yes, it is the SD card that came with the ONE.
What can I do then? |

Try FAT32. It's worked many times for me and others. |

If it's the original card it isn't that that is the issue. FAT16 should be fine but perhaps there is a fault with it. Do you have a spare card? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Might have a spare card that I use for my camera. What minimum size does it need to be? |

If it's s standard UK TomTom ONE than 256Mb would be plenty. _________________ Darren Griffin |

OK,
Stuck my 1Gb SD card in the TT1 and it was even worse. It looks like I've got a problem with my PC as anything I try and do using 'My Computer' with the TT1, e.g. format, copy files from the TT1 to a 'My Documents' folder fails
I get loads of these warnings in the 'System' event viewer:
Source: DISC
Event ID: 51
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.
followed usually by one of these
Source: FastFAT
Event ID:50
{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file . The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
The problem is everything else, MY TT Go 910, Canon IXUS 60 digital camera (that uses an SD card) work perfectly
Help................. |
