Hi, need a bit of advice.
If I insert new map on a card in to my Nuvi 310, how can I look at it?
It is a USA map & I want to be sure that it is working but can't seem to find a way to bring it up
Thanks |

Not tried this in my wife's 310 - but on my 660 what you would do is:-
(There may be slight differences in the commands as the two units do have very slight differences in the menu structure.)
Settings (Spanner)
MAP
Map Info
At this point it tells you what maps it can see and what you have selected.
I would select the new map and deselect the current map and see what you get! You should be able to browse the map and plan a journey to check it out.
Don't forget to re-select the original map! _________________ Phil |

Thanks
However, when I go to Map Info I get 2 listings
One is City Navigator Europe NT v9 which I presume is original
nd also Mgna7 Maps uploaded with sendmap which I presume are ones on card.
Both these have a tick box which I can select or deselect, however I always seem to get the std local map come up in View Map
Presume I am doing something wrong ??????????
Thanks

Is the "Mgna7 Maps uploaded with Sendmap" from a GARMIN source - I don't recognise the naming.
If it is - you should be OK as long as it is unlocked for your unit. If it's unlocked andworking you should be able to set a destination in US.
If not - and it's third party supplied' then it may be a "display only" i.e. it doesn't allow routing but will display your current location o the 'map'. You would need to 'fool' your unit into believing you were in USA . On 660 I would do this by generating a POI (somewhere in centre of US city), Plan route to this POI and when the POI is shown; choose Show on Map rather than GO and see what happens. You should be able to acheive same on 310 - but some menus may be different. Once shown on the US map you can Set Location to put your car there. _________________ Phil |

Mgna7 stand for "MetroGuide North America V7"!
You have to select a WP or city located in the USA and then to select "show map".

OK - so it won' be routable on the nuvi then? I haven't used this product but isn't it designed primrily for hand held mapping units where you produce the route on the PC then download it to the target GPS _________________ Phil |

As I said - not familiar withthat particular Garmin s/w but...
It's not a routing product, relying on you planning a route on the PC s/w (Mapsource) and transferring it to the GPS unit. Note that the nuvi is not of the list of recommended GPS units and I don't believe you can download pre-planned routes. So you will be limited to using the map as a 'where am I' device.
As I said in a prev reply: best way would be to generate a POI that is in the area of the USA you want to check.
Create a simple .csv file with Excel (or similar) with the Long,Lat, Name and save it with your other POIs / Cameras. (Have a look at a working Garmin POI .csv file for the format, use Google Earth to get Lat / Long of a place.)
Use POILoader to load the POIs.
On the nuvi: plan a route and select the POI as the destination. You should be given the chance to view the map on the same screen as the GO button. Viewing the map should re-position you to the POI and hence the US map. _________________ Phil |

Thanks Phil :D
Must admit that I hadn't realised they were not routeable until recently, guess that's the reason they were cheap !
Is there any sensibly priced routeable map for Florida that is designed for the Nuvi |

Don't know about sensibly priced but...
http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/citynavnt.jsp
Would be the routable solution for what you want. Now I'm sure I saw it on the Garmin website as available for specific geographic areas - but can't seem to see it now. _________________ Phil |
