Hi
I've been trying to get a French map for my F20 but no-one has any stock in the UK. If I bought one from France, would it work ok in my UK model?
I don't want to waste my money. |

Or don't PM if you don't want to fall foul of licencing and copyright laws. An F20 map from France should work just fine, but you could ask Navman to be absolutely sure.
thegreatroberto, this is for you. Do not offer to share maps here or by PM. _________________ Tim |

Thanks thegreatroberto, but I've just bought a European map as I'm going away next weekend for two weeks and I couldn't wait any longer.
I've just had an email from Navman saying that they now have "New French maps" in stock from 1st July, too bloody late! |

Yes and no. Map data is the same but it is worthless without the paid-for unlock code. When you add new maps to your device Navman's desktop software connects to their server to check if you already have appropriate code registered -- if you do, it will then update license files on your device. If none of the codes you already have registered covers the new region it will ask you to enter new code -- if you don't have it new maps won't work.
Navman also sells pre-registered memory cards with maps for some devices -- these maps are locked to the card. If you transfer all files to another card and try to use it, it won't work.
Codes are not interchangeable between different map releases. Also, obtaining a code that someone else already registered will not help you as server will notice and refuse to give you new license files. |
