There are 2 issues:
1. Powering X50v through USB is a big problem though with proper/right cables it is OK.
2. X50v needs a high current if the battery is near empty. 850mA is barely enough to do it but it is OK, IF it can output what it say it can (850mA). But very often cheap car USB chargers output a lot less than indicated.
Search the relevant inforation on Axim dedicated site. _________________ Pc-Mobile

It is difficult to see what type of connectors are fitted to the output of the E-Bay charger, the output voltage is fine at 5V but the current is 850mA, fine, if that is available to both outputs, but it is a little low if its supplying both (425mA max each) - you will find the Dell needs more than that to charge and be powered up running navigation software.
To be honest if both your devices came with car charger leads I would consider one of These and use the correct lead for each device - Mike |

Correct - for X50 / X51 you need a 5v supply capable of 2A if your battery is almost flat. They are very power hungry when flat. A USB charger is fine for keeping it topped up when charged though. _________________ Phil |

This applies to most chargers being manufactured and supplied down to minimum cost, most laptops will not charge if used constantly when trying to charge from a flat state, they rely on an average between max and min use, I dont think any manufacture allows for constant max power consumption. |

All laptops and PDAs I have owned/used (at work) have always charged from a flat state whilst being used. And I use some CPU intensive apps (video/graphic rendering etc). It just takes a little longer to charge. My current PDA (AXIM X51v) is no exception. It regularly runs flat - I set alarms and forget to cancel them I just plug it in and off I go again. I bought the AXIM because it stores the apps in non-volatile memory - so you don't loose them when power goes - very useful for people like me _________________ Phil |

I can only speak of my own experience, 2 out of my last 3 laptops suffered this, and admittedly subject to the intensivety of use and disc drive, also agree entirely with your sentiments on non-volatile memory with mio now being over 2yrs old and the battery life being somewhat less than usual, it is a worry when being away from home. |
