First of all make sure the read/ write switch on the side of the memory card is not set to the Lock position, if it is simply move the plastic slider to the other position.
If the card is not write protected as above try the following:
Connect the PDA to your PC or use a card reader for this, Using Windows Explorer locate the Storage card that TomTom is installed to
Open the folder containing your map it will be Great Britain or Western Europe etc.
Locate the file current_map.cfg or map_settings.cfg and copy it to the PC.
Using the PC locate the file and right click it, select Properties from the pop-up box
Un tick the "Read Only" box.
Copy the file back to the map folder on the storage card. - Mike |

On my phone the file is called "MapSettings.cfg" and is located in the maps folder. I am running Tomtom6 on a Symbian phone which may well be different to your setup though... |

MapSettings.cfg is correct for vs6 software, this chap is using vs5 so the file is Great-Britain-plus-map.cfg once you have the file on the PC delete it on the phone before copying the file back to the correct folder (after unchecking the read only file attribute) - Mike |

Aah! Thanks Mike - that explains why it took me a while to find the beastie when I was looking for it recently.
I spent ages trying to find a file beginning "great..." or "uk...", since this is what I recall it being named from the last time I went looking for it. That last time must be before I upgraded from 5 to 6.
The light finally dawns... :D |

I seem to recall that you need to turn the BT on, on the phone before starting TomTom (at least with V5.20). But it's been a long time since I ran it on my S60 device. I also seem to remember that if the BT is on it offers you your last used device as a default to connect to.
This is the behaviour I am getting with a bit of Python for an S60 script I am working on that will provide position logging and Lat/Long and OSGB display on my N72 and 6680 phones. Working OK at present - just need to handle some of the error conditions a bit better. (It crashes if the GPS hasn't got a position lock when you start the app!) _________________ Phil |
