Although I have a quite recent version of the European maps on my TomTom there are still several roads that have either been closed for some years, or have been closed temporarily, but I keep getting directed to these roads. The mapping software does not keep up with this kind of information, and in some instances it tries to send me down dead ends – roads that have never gone any where!
I know this isn’t a problem as far as the mapping etc. is concerned as it re-routes as soon as I take a different road. What I don’t like is that there are speed cameras that I am not warned of until it is too late because of the time lag of redirecting. Again, this is not a problem most of the time as the roads are local to me and I am aware of the camera locations. However, this also happens in other areas where I am not familiar with the camera location.
I am sure I am not the only person who has come across this problem and I was wondering if there is any way of marking roads as closed on the TomTom. A sort of reverse POI – a PTA (Places to Avoid) would be a more accurate description.
Perhaps this could be another centralised database maintained by PGPSW, in a similar way to the Speed Camera databases.

Unfortunately TomToms can't use 'Avoid POI'. Only 'Avoid Part of Route' or 'Avoid Roadblock'.
The next best thing is to report the error to TeleAtlas. _________________ Richard

Thanks Oldboy, I am aware that there are no Avoids available, but I was wondering if it was possible to manipulate the traffic files in some way, as they can create blocked and slow roads etc.
It's all very well contacting TeleAtlas but it then means that you have to wait for them to get around to updating the software and then buy yet another version from TomTom.
Even this is hit and miss though, some of the roads I am referring to have never been open. I assumed this would be sorted out when I bought the last version. It would just be so much easier and more up to date if there was something available which allowed you to add entries to a traffic file. This could then be posted off to TeleAtlas and they could make the appropriate changes in there software from those files. |
