Won't work with your i3 unless you pay for the unlock code for your unit.
The maps are freely available to swap (i have the v9 Europe maps on DVD from Garmin - cost £0) but they have to be unlocked for your unit which costs. |

Didn't I read somewhere that the SDCards don't need to be unlocked - they can't be copied in a working state, after all. _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006

A couple of minutes searching turned up this
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=80125
which seems to indicate that SD cards are unlocked out of the box - can anyone confirm this? _________________ Garmin I3 October 2006

It's not the CARD that needs to be unlocked but the map itself. When you try to install the map it'll ask for an unlock code. This locks the map to the UNIT, not the card. You can use another card with the maps that came with your unit but not maps that came with someone elses unit - they'll be locked to their unit.
Or so i thought. I haven't got time to read the above but it seems you can do it some how... |

I had an Eastern Europe V8 SD card which Garmin gave me for my old C510 (now returned). That worked out of the box - the unlock code was built into the card but was not unit specific. |
