I am using the Tom Tom 710. I have downloaded the voices, unzipped them and copied them into the voices folder on the card. I have also previewed them on the card by opening the voices and playing them. |
Something is not quite right here - I don't think that you can play a TomTom voice without using the unit itself.
Another thought - when you change the voice, it would normally ask you if you want to choose a voice from the same language - if you answer yes, then only the "English" voices will be visible. |

Just for information and anyone interested, the only way I have managed this is to load the voice prompt data.chk into Ray Flanagans POIExtend and hit the test buttons. |
Ahh... yes, I suppose you can test it like that :-) |

Mike,
Sorry it was not clear. I am having problems with both.
The first problem I encountered was the speed camera voices which I had copied into the poi folder in the western europe maps.
I redid the download and I also downloaded the direction voices"turn left at.." into the voices folder.
Neither will work, but it is not obvious what I'm doing wrong.
Help appreciated.

Follow the directions that Eldar has supplied to get the navigation voices working, concentrate sorting that out first.
Then have a read of This Page for the spoken alerts that work with the PocketGPSWorld speed camera database - Mike |

The .ov2, .ogg and .bmp files just go in the root of the map folder, not inside a folder inside the map folder. I think you already know this but reading the above quote it doesn't make it clear whether you really do know.

Thanks Eldar and Mike,
I have followed Eldars instructions to the letter and still no joy. The Tom Tom Home software is showing the additional voice as being there alongside Jane and the others.
I am now wondering if it may just be a card capacity problem. The card is chock a block - so is it possible that this is why the system won't read the additional voice and has also defaulted to the warning tones for the camera's?
Next step is to copy the voices folder, delete the standard voices and try again!
If it is related to the card, is it ok to transfer the data to a 2GB card?

Yes you can use a larger card, if your card is full then I am surprised the unit will even work correctly. Have a read of #1 and #8 on This Page - make sure you have a full back-up on the PC, then copy it to the new card.
Removal of the standard voices you don't use is certainly an option to consider as it will free up some space - Mike |

Deleting the standard voices did the trick - allowing the new voices to operate - so I think the issue must be related to card capacity.
I will try to sort the warning voices later and let you know.

I think I may have a similar problem. I have a tomtom one and when i install the new voices, I get no sound (not even when i press test).
Sometimes this even makes the device crash and reboot.
Could this be because the memory card is full? If so, I am hesitant to delete voices that I need (i.e. the english ones) - so can anyone tell me which of the 50 or so that come with it are unnecessary.
Obviously, if there is something else I should be doing and memory size has nothing to do with it, please advise too.
Thanks |

You should be able to delete all the non-English voices on the One itself. However, if you can't get the unit to run, you can manually delete all the dataxx.chk files (where xx is a number) EXCEPT data04.chk and data05.chk (and data.chk which are the default alert sounds) |

Damnations - deleting the extra voices didn't make any difference. The voices still don't come out - any other suggestions? |

You can select the voice but when you press "Test" it doesn't work or crashes the unit - is that it?
1. Something is not right with the dataXX.chk file (happens often with so-called add-ons bought from e-Bay
2. You've switched the sound off |

Oh well, guess it's my fault for buying off ebay and not spending the "extortionate" price that TT offer |
