Hi! We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
But as we’re losing ad-revenue from this then why not make a donation towards website running costs?. Or you could disable your ad-blocker for this site. We think you’ll find our adverts are not overbearing!
so, erm, anyway... can we discuss how you think this may affect the usefulness of the mobile database files?!
Delicatly put! Nice!
Maybe too early to tell for sure, but if some counties do take advantage of this law then the mobile database is little more than suggestive. We can only hope that most will be cautious with the use of mobile cameras otherwise there may be an backlash of pubic interest.
Maybe we will have formed a realistic opinion by page 7 of this thread!

...but if you're so busy watching your dashboard to make sure you don't speed - what about the fact that you'll be paying less attention to what's going on around you
...will watching your speedo help you see that child that runs out in front of you??
...will watching your speedo help avoid the deer that jumps out in front of you??
Doesn't this apply to also looking at a satnav system?

Also, why do motorists get punished so much, when burglars and other people who break the law get away??
Very rarely do burglars kill people through their selfish actions

The PocketGPSWorld.com Speed Camera Database Has Just Been Updated!
Version 22.178 - 17 August 2010
There are a total of 427,925 verified cameras in the database and 511,278 unverified mobile sites (total combined: 939203). 3,894 Gatso/Monitron/Truvelo/RedSpeed, 937547 Mobiles, 6 Temporary, 264 Specs and 992 Redlight Cameras.
It really is getting beyond a joke, most people drive sensibly and close to the speed limit, but, having to constantly watch the speedometer so you don't stray over is surely counter productive to safety.
Even if you glance at your speed for 1 second, at 60 mph, you will have travelled 29.3 yards, or, the length of approximately 6 cars.
This, to me, is an absurd way of promoting safety and is nothing more than blatant revenue generation.

Isn't that the role of the sat nav speaker - so that you can listen to instructions?
...and any sensible driver only glances at the sat nav periodically - just as they look at speed limit signs/no entry signs etc - and it is not a screen that tells all

This is assuming that everybody killed in car crashes are innocent by-standers and not the 'selfish' driver and you're forgetting the increasing crime figures for aggravated burglary, violent muggings etc
Anyway, we digress again _________________ Andy

i just have a sneaky feeling that if more scp's start using new sites more often then we'll end up with 10 sites on the same stretch of road - how do we know which to keep? or do we keep all of them?!
As I said elsewhere, time to get the old Laser/Radar detector back out for full time use. To my mind, it's the mobiles that are the real challenge for all of us, and always have been.
I have a picture of the rear end of my wifes Ka, (Ka I said!) driving away from a mobile when she got caught last year....I always thought that they caught you coming towards you, not t'other way around. Beautiful picture it is too, considering it's 320 yards away, and you can tell that it's a female head in the driving seat as well.
It's a hell of a lot easier to catch a motorist with a camera than have to do some real police work to catch a burglar or mugger.
Actually speed cameras have had little effect on everyday police officers so this is a incorrect statement. Indeed it is a myth that the media persist in reinforcing at every turn.
The public perception of lack of police action in these areas is due to a reduction in frontline officers. These officers are not involved in speed cameras (these depts are generally staffed by support staff).
The officers from the frontline are either:-
- in a plain clothes team targeting housebreakers, robbers etc etc. This sounds great but in reality it means they will be solving lots of crimes that have already happened not actually stopping current crimes. Yes they will arrest the criminals but only after they have committed the crime and we all have seen what sentences they get from the courts. All driven by the Govt wanting high solvency figures but forgetting that the officers in such squads have to come from somewhere.
- involved in other roles, firearms, special branch, community safety etc etc.
There will always be a balancing act for the police between proactive, reactive and specialist posts. Unfortunately at the moment the true proactive policing (frontline uniform patrol) are not something this government is interested in.

Imagine I'm an alien from another world.
Burglary, mugging, drink driving is generally recognized as wrong, and no-one complains much when a miscreant gets his comeuppance , but when someone gets caught speeding, that could easily have led to injury, or loss of life, then some people get up on their high horses.
If you obey the traffic laws, ie keep to the speed limits, then you won't be fined, if on the other hand, you wish to flout the law, then you should be willing and man enough to take the punishment.

Keep them all as fmobiles.

A location at either end of the road with a verbal warning "you are entering a mobile camera zone"
Maybe have an extra voice in the device, as soon as you fire it up it says 'You are entering a fmobile zone. Stay home and save a few bob'.
We are definitly returning to having a man with a red flag in front. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
And NO that's NOT me in the Avatar.
It just got me thinking , I feel if the safely parthership won't give more moneys to the police's that they can't afford it, well I feel the police should off then to stop wasting their time sitting on the road for nothing earn a living of dead end job ruining the healthy life out of it.
It a mad world make life too much hassle.
Anyone's want to take over the world, don't think so ! too much hassle. 8O

And any sensible driver need look at his speedo periodically, your argument holds no water, in fact it is laughable and just grasping at straws for an excuse to break the law, no matter what argument you present against speeding, you cannot overlook one fact, and that fact is, it is illegal.

No, you digress, I didn't mention muggings, and no injury has to be caused for a charge of aggravated burglary to be made. ("A person is guilty of aggravated burglary if he commits any burglary and at the time has with him ... any weapon of offence...; and for this purpose -
(b) 'weapon of offence' means any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to or incapacitating a person, or intended by the person having it with him for such use.")
The bottom line is even if ONE innocent person is killed by a speeding driver it is one too many, or do you think deaths caused by speeding drivers are justified because a group of people think speeding is OK? _________________ Tomtom Go730T
