nuvi310 and car speakers

Ermm

am I right in saying that I can play my MP3 music files thru my car speakers using my nuvi 310? If so, what extra hardware do I need to do this?

ps - it's great how playing music thru its built-in speaker, the music stops to allow the 310 to make an annoucement and then resumes play .. 8)

Have a read through my post in This Thread which details a few options for connecting the Nuvi to the car deck, it does pause the music playing from the Nuvi when issuing warnings or navigation - works very well in use though, not too hot from the inbuilt speaker though - Mike

As usual, my 'search' technique requires some fine tuning (pun) - I'd have never found it under 'motorhome' anyway!! Laughing

my car is a 2002 Audi so I'm pretty optimistic that it'll have either a 3.5mm aux input or RCA (hey, I sound like I know what I'm talking about Laughing

).

OK next (a little off-topic) but could I take a spare 12V nuvi charger, cut off the cigarette socket and hard wire it to a constant +12V supply behind the dash leaving the mini USB available for hooking up every time I jump in my car?

I now understand what you mean re cutting off the plug on the NUVI adaptor, however does the same not go for the MAPLIN one? If not, I was thinking of then cutting the plug off the MAPLIN and splicing the wires into the feed for the car cigarette lighter behind the dash, thus allowing me to retain the standard 12V car socket but have an extrat 1 (or 2) behind the dash..! Question

The same does not apply to the Maplin device as it starts with 12v and ends with 12v...

If you don't like the Maplin unit, Maplin also sell some individual components, allowing you to create your own (although it may work out more expensive).

The power addapter for the Nuvi contains the voltage regulator which is why you shouldn't remove it. The Maplins two way extension addaptor is simply a plug containing no regulation etc. so it quite simple to remove that one from the wires and connect direct to a fused outlet - Mike
