You may not have been the first person to notify PGPSW of the new cameras locations.
Did you get an email from them and if so, what did it say? _________________ RQ

How long does this normally take | As RQ says, you have to get up very early to be the first to report a new camera - there are so many members, probably all working different hours, that there always seems to be someone else who reported it sooner!
If you look at top of the most recent page for new database downloads, it says Quote: | We have had a total of 38 verified static cameras added this release submitted by 24 members. All members submitting the first report of these static cameras will be credited with lifetime memberships by 17:00 03 May 07. | So it looks like the new free lifetime memberships are issued within a couple of days of the new cameras being published in the database.
But please don't give up trying. It is possible to manage it - I have lifetime membership and I still report everything I see - I don't know if I've been the first recently, but we rely on all our reports to help keep the database top of its class. And remember, you can get a free membership for being first to report removal or change of a fixed camera, not just new ones. I sometimes think it might be easier to be first with those - I wonder whether they get as many reports of change to speed limit. _________________ Dennis

I reported a camera where the cement still hadn't set around the base, but it was already listed - that's how quick you have to be! _________________ Andy

We get a large number of these reported to us by the install teams. They tell us where and when with the full OS Grid Reference _________________ Darren Griffin |

...not much hope for the rest of us then, if people have 'inside information'
Who owns up to installing speed cameras though? This must make you less popular than the tax man
...although I understand the free membership also applies if you're the first to report a camera which has been removed - let's form a removal team _________________ Andy

I cannot believe how desperate people are to get free life membership and save themselves £2 a month - or £1.5833333333 a month if they pay yearly. Less than a pint, or 10 cigarettes, or half a gallon of petrol.
Surely contributing to the accuracy of the database by verifiying a camera already submitted by someone else is motivation enough to report a new camera? _________________ Anita

I don't see myself as desperate - just trying to have a little fun with a subject that could be viewed as contentious or pretty dull.
If you can't have a bit of friendly banter with other members along the way, then the forum may, indeed, be factual - but it wouldn't be much fun and membership may well just drop off as a result.
...but we're all entitled to our own view on this _________________ Andy

I wasn't getting at you or your light-hearted comments, just the people who say they've submitted a number of new cameras and want to know why they haven't been awarded free membership, often implying that there's something underhand going on.
I'm all for friendly banter! :D _________________ Anita

I wasn't taking it personally
...I also wasn't just aiming my comment at you - this forum isn't a chatroom, but some of these topics need a bit of humour adding.
Sadly, I think there IS an element of truth in what you said about people taking it too seriously
Free membership should be viewed more like the lottery - if you're lucky, you get it....if some fool reports the camera first, you don't - and we shouldn't expect it whenever we report a camera.

Anita and GPS_fan congratulations both. Your posts are the sort of thing I find welcome here. Dull stuff is dull, your stuff isn't.
Oh and by the way Anita, the annual membership fee equates to approximately 5.2054794521 pence a day - could we have a little more accuracy if you please! (That's not for a leap year of course, which is even better value). _________________ Dennis

I bow to your superior mathematical skills, Dennis.
After all, judging from your signature, you're far better educated than I am. I only managed five 'O Levels' before leaving school way back in 1959, and then only reached the heady heights of programmer/analyst, while you were obviously a nuclear physicist before changing career to become a white van man. _________________ Anita
