Hi All
I'm like BRAND SPANKING new to the world of satnav, let alone POIs so please be very gentle with me..!
I understand the concept of POI but I'm not sure how, at all, I go about loading a 'Loader' and custom POIs into my newly acquired nuvi310d.
All help/advice and links to such will be greatly appreciated. :D |

Hi. I'm also quite new to this satnav world.
Get software here...
http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/
...and
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00538-01&cID=134&pID=398
A word of warning about POIs - I found this out the hard way. When you add POIs using the Garmin software it overwrites any POIs already installed. So for example if you have this sites Speed Camera info installed and you install this sites general POI info it will overwrite the camera info.
The way to get round this is to connect your Garmin and rename the camera poi (to say "camera_poi.gpi"). When I download other POIs I rename this "Non_camera_poi.gpi".
Hope this clear. _________________ Nick Russell

Nick's way is one way. Another is to make a folder on your hard drive called ie Garmin and put all your POI's in there. When you update your cameras, put them in the same folder so that when you add new ones, it will overwrite all the old ones but leave the other POI's alone. Open POI Loader and point the program at that folder. It will then make your POI file and as long as you are connected to the Nuvi, upload it.
Whatever way takes your fancy!

Don't download and install everything, be selective in which POI files you actually need - your device is limitted to 257 Custom POI Categories, anymore than this and the device won't boot correctly.
There is a fix for this issue on the 310 but it involdes installing new software tour your new device - Mike |
