Hi,

I'm really hoping that you can help me please.

I have an iPAQ rx5720 Travel Companion and have bought a pack of 29 voices from ebay, sold as 'tested with Navigator 5 and above'

I have extracted the files (ie, the vif, chk and bmp files) into Mobile Device/ My Documents on my PC when my iPAQ is connected.

When I disconnect the iPAQ, the files are on My Device on the iPAQ menu, but they aren't in the Change Voice section of the TomTom Software.

Does anyone have any idea why the files are on my iPAQ, but not recognisable by the software ?

Its driving me mad !

Thanks

Jack

They need to be in the Voices folder on your SD card. I cant remember the exact location of the folder as i dont have the PDA version of TT anymore but it might be something like

Mobile Device/SD Card/TomTom/Voices

or

Mobile Device/SD card/Voices

Either way you should be able to find a voices folder somewhere on the SD card, just copy the sets of 3 files to that folder.

Hi

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I have no SD card on this iPAQ.

Will putting these files into a root directory on the actual device be causing a problem ?

Ok if there is no SD card then fair enough, but there should still be a folder somewhere in the storage space available on the device called voices. This is where the voices must be installed for tomtom to recognise them.

Don't try installing all of the 29 voices just yet as you might run out of memory to store them. Try just one set until you get it working.

Can you not find any files ending with the same extension's as the files you bought.

i.e.

data05.vif
data05.chk

There has to be some somewhere on the device for the voices that come with the PDA.

OK try this, but then i have to go out, but someone else may be able to pick up where i left off.

Click on "My Computer" then
"My Device" then
"My Pocket PC" or something to that effect maybe "MY IPAQ"

You should now be able to see alot more folder's and the voices folder should be visible here somewhere or within one of the folders in view.

If you have already tried the above then i apologise as i don't know your level of knowledge with PDA's.

Fingers crossed you get it sorted or someone else helps you before tomorrow.

Bye for now.

I have a vague recollection that I may have had to create the voice folder when I first put extra voices in, but not sure now, because it was getting on for a year ago.

Further Information, Just to confuse,
have now had a look around my PDA and found that i have another voices folder containg further added voice files .vif etc on the root of my memory card, the root is the one above my map folders, although i am sure i did create a voice folder, now not sure which one or even both, perhaps one didnt work and wasnt sure which worked so left them both in, unit works well so not going to delve. I feel sure the memory card one is the one used because it has more voice files in it along with .bmp face files, the one on the internal memory file has no .bmp face files so i cannot check what they are.

Thanks aj

Still unable to find Tim, Jane and Ken et al

If I could find them, I think I would be able to get a result.

Any further helpers here ?

Just to recap, I have 29 voices dataxx.vif, dataxx.chk and dataxx.bmp but wherever I put them on my iPAQ, the iPAQ sees them (ie you can find them when the iPAQ is disconnected from the PC) but they are not in the Change Voice section of the TomTom Navigator 6 software.

I have created a voices folder, tried putting them on an SD card and all sorts, but no result !

Hope you can help

Cheers
Jack

Have you got a file named "collected.ini", this is in my voice folder if you open it in notepad it says "Auto-generated marker file. Remove this file to re-scan for voice files.".
