Maximum is 1Gb i believe. _________________ Don't eat yellow snow
i3, on the middle of the dash, works just fine!

Just beware if your device was supplied with the maps installed to the memory card then they are locked to that specific card, you cannot simply copy the cards contents to another card and expect it to work - it won't.
If you are loading new maps fair enough, if all you need is to install some POI to the card there should be sufficient space on the existing card, for later units supplied with the maps installed to internal memory you can buy a card for installing POI to but don't waste your cash on anything as large as 1GB, POI files are very small - your device is limited to 85 custom POI categories so I would think even a 32MB card (if such a size exists would suffice) - Mike |

In that case yes as you will have the codes to activate the new map, I only mentioned the issues surrounding larger cards as we often get people trying to transfer the old card to a new card and then they find it won't work - Mike |

Was that for an i3 though? I understood that 1 gb was the maximum supported, and that the bigger the card the slower the device worked.
Maybe this is myth - anyone? |

Seems to be okay with 2gb card, I just installed the V9 maps and it took about 45 mins to do the whole lot. When I ran garmin I noticed in maps it has v8 and V9 so I disabled the v8 by unchecking the checkbox.
It was Garmin that told me to get a 2gb card.
I do have the garmin i3 that didnt come with a transcard, maps were built in. |

Wonder if its different between the 2 types of unit? I guess its worth £17 to find out. Is that enough for the whole of Europe then? |

An email I received from Garmin about updating to v9 maps said:
". . . the i3 can hold on its internal memory/micro sd card an update for the UK and Ireland maps, if more is required for example, some European mapping you may need a larger card and the i3 is compatible with up to a 1GB micro sd card."
I was able to fit nearly all of Western Europe on a 1GB card, which is more than I shall ever need. _________________ Anita
