Is the EGNOS system active? I have never seen the D characters on the satellite screen to signify it works. I have it enabled in setup. |

Yes, I've seen it on mine, you need to be in a pretty open environment for it to lock on. I usually don't bother with it. _________________ __________________________

I used to see the EGNOS satellites all the time but with some of the 'upgrades' to software they seem to have gone. I have not seen one register on my GPS for ages and I used to see them just by going into my garden.

Hi M8s
I've seen them quite often, if I've enabled them, which I don't have all the time. Last time I've checked was about 3 weeks ago, not much of a problem. So it doesn't seem to be a problem related to the EGNOS itself.
That's on my Quest 2 while driving around with my car and having an external antenna connected. It takes a while to sync, but then it seems to stay on most of the time.
I've the field enabled on my display which indicates the precession it thinks it has. Without EGNOS it's down to 5m, sometimes 4m for a short while. With EGNOS on it gets to 3m or in some situations even to 2m.

It's not so easy for us further up North because the EGNOS satellites are over the equator so they are lower in the sky and harder to pick up. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Hi M8.
Yeah, that's most probably true, but anyway, London isn't too far in the north either. If you're outside built-up areas, it should be fine, theoretically..
I'll see how my unit will do start of July, I'll be around Yorkshire for two weeks then.

Probably not worth the aggro all things considered, at least for general use. The improvement in position error is marginal. If they get it down to sub-metre then we are getting somewhere. I find that knowing where you are +/- 10mtrs is good enough as an aid to walking/navigating alonside a good map/chart and common sense.
I got a lock, once, on my GPS60 up in the Derbyshire hills but I generally have it switched off as GARMIN warn you in the manual that it consumes more battery power in that mode (? more processing done / more radio power required) _________________ Phil |
