They are mobile speed camera sites that have yet to be verified as viable. |

Gus... to give a bit more detail...
The speed-zoned set of files were meant to consist of 24 categories:
Fixed cameras for each speed limit, variable limit (e.g. on the M25) and unknown limit (8 files)
Mobile cameras for each speed limit and unknown limit (7 files)
Specs cameras for each speed limit and unknown limit (7 files)
Redlight cameras (1 file)
Temporary camera installations for roadworks etc. (1 file)
All the help files and instructions refer to this set of 24.
Recently, however, two things have happened:
Firstly, (and I may have my facts slightly askew on this one), an additional category which was used internally as a check file got added to the released set by accident one month.
This is called "pocketgps_uk_mobile_var.ov2" and should always be empty (as there are no mobile sites in variable speed limit zones), but having been sent out once with some entries in it, it had to be sent out again the next time, in order to overwrite the erroneous file.
Secondly, a section of the forum community realised that PGPSW only added camera sites to the database once they were happy that they were correct, but due to the ocassional nature of mobile sites, it could take some time for them to be "verified" by a second sighting.
They argued that it was better to have ANY information, however vague or possibly incorrect, and so although PGPSW would have preferred not to release them, the 8 "pending" mobile files were added to the download.
As they are not part of the "official" release, I guess that PGPSW haven't seen updating the Help files as a urgent priority. |
