|

I have just downloaded the single file (Excel CSV version) database. I checked one to see if I could find it on a map. This was: GATSO:3014 with lat 50.757770 and long 1.927170, labelled as Broadstone, UK. When I searched this on a map, I found it but it wasn't in Broadstone. Broadstone is in Poole whilst this camera is in Bournemouth in a place called Wallisdown. How reliable are these titles?
Also one has to be careful not to click on one of the column headings in the Excel files (thus re-arranging the data) as, when this is imported, it can be completely wrong! |

I will let the camera database guys defend their own but..
Which file did you download? I just DL'd the single CSV file (for 'Other' system type) and a quick scan didn't reveal any position information other than Lat Long - as I would expect. There may be a file in the camera database for some specific nav system with additional comments - I stand to be educated here
Anyway... although you could use the CSV file for your own purposes - they are intended to be downloaded into a nav system and the methods for doing this don't usually require you to open the file.
Some systems (e.g. GARMIN nuvi) will show the camera 'name' (in your case GATSO:3014@40) when you approach it - other systems don't.
As for Excel - by default clicking on columns shouldn't do anything to the order of the data - you have to select the column then do a sort. At least with Excel 2003 it doesn't do this - in fact if you attempt to sort a single column you get a pop-up warning you that you are about to do something pretty silly.
What application are you using to open the files? _________________ Phil |

If you just click the top the top of a colum it will resort ALL the colums so the data will still be correct but in a different order. You'd have to perfoirm a specific set of clicks to mess the data up.
Also if you do reorder the data when you close the file just don't save the changes. |

We don't have any such location data in our database, where did you get that from?
Ours have Lat, Lon, CAMERA ID & Speed nothing else. _________________ Darren Griffin |

| It depends on whose database it is and where you got it from. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Bored, so I thought I'd have a look at the Excel version of the download.
There isn't a "single file" version, only a "consolidated-by-type" when you select Excel... |

Serves you all right for using Excel instead of Lotus 1-2-3. _________________ Dennis

Gentlemen,
My apologies for giving you false information. As Darren pointed out the raw data, downloaded from this website, only has lat., long. and a camera name.
When I imported this into CoPilot 4, the desktop software created another table which added a location lable. It is this lable that produces the erroneous location names. Of course it is of no consequence, since this name is redundant.
I thank you all for the time taken to reespond to my query. |

Thanks for the update, you had a few of us scratching our heads and downloading CSVs to check back there! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Darren wrote: | , I bet you still have a 3.5" disc drive too ;) | My latest machine is the very first without (but I've still got a zillion 3.5" floppies). 'Course, I used to have twin 360Kb 5.25" drives. I was also (don't tell anybody) the one who managed to get Lotus 1-2-3 release 2.01 onto a 3.5" 720Kb floppy for use in a single drive 512Kb RAM laptop (but I did rather spoil it by setting up the Autoexec to have a VDisk so big (!) that it didn't have enough RAM left to re-write the Autoexec to get it to work again).
The first computer I ever met (ICL 4120?) was 8Kb RAM, multiple tape drives, had an air lock to visit it and took up enough space to hold a PGPSW Expo. Our IT dept set up my purchasing stuff with a program which required 16Kb RAM and went live a week before the extra 8Kb arrived. Sad, really. _________________ Dennis
