What Ash10 means is he needs to know what the sample rate is, how many bits it's using etc. A WAV file has a lot of different internal formats.

If running XP Right click on the file and select Properties.

In the Summary Tab select Advanced and you will get the info required.

Bit Rate 128kbps
channels 1 (mono)
Audio sample rate 16khz
Audio format PCM

I have also uploaded the wav file to the following link if anyone would like to download and see if they have the same problem

Hi Guys,

This looks great! I have a few questions.

1- will this work on my Garmin C530?
2- Can I replace the wav files with my own wav files?

Thanks

Voice Utility won't* convert that particular file, because it's only 8-bit PCM - you'll need either 16-bit PCM, or 8-bit u-Law/a-Law, as per the original instructions ;)

(*won't, rather that can't - 8-bit PCM is usually too low-quality to be of any real use)

Hi Ash
I posted this elsewhere - but not sure if you saw it - sorry if you did, but here's a repeat...Would love your ideas please???

Is there any way your fantastic Camera Manager can be used with the POI loader that has .wav files enabled. I have tried using CBROMs version with the wav files and it works really well by telling you the type of camera and what speed it is - but VERY annoyingly keeps on telling you!!
using the info below (posted elsewhere), could it be possible to have your versions speed cams named as below so we could use the wav files available :

(this is an extract from this thread: POI Loader software version 2.4.0.0 Beta)
1/ Download and install Audacity to your PC, don't worry its free.
This software package can be used to create your own files using a microphone or use it to convert ogg files to the wav format.
There are a number of other sat nav systems using the ogg file format, so there is a variety of ready made audio file sets for camera warning. One excellent source is Ray's site which can be found HERE the voice files you want are located at the bottom of the linked page, in 22050Hz format. There are three to choose from.

2/ Use Audacity (or any other good audio package) to open each individual track then use the file/ Export as WAV option.

3/ Re-name the files to match the file set you use:

For those using the Single file download:

pocketgps_uk_sc.wav

For those using the consolidated by type file download:

pocketgps_uk_gatso.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile.wav
pocketgps_uk_redlight.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs.wav
pocketgps_uk_temp.wav

For those using the Speed Zoned file type download:

pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_40.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_50.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_60.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_70.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_tba.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_var.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_20.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_30.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_40.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_50.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_60.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_70.wav
pocketgps_uk_moblie_tba.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_20.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_30.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_40.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_50.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_60.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_70.wav
pocketgps_uk_redlight.wav
pocketgps_uk_temp.wav

Use the above as a tick list to compile your file list, most of the above are available already, only the mobile 20 and gatso 20 require creation for a full set, I use the basic mobile or Gatso warning for the files that are missing, simply duplicate the file and name accordingly..

4/ Put all the wav files in the same folder as your bmp/ csv files, then use the new Beta POILoader to install the files to the device.
Mike
I have tried your versions with the wav files but as they aren't the same as the ready made wav files, the unit doesn't see them. Equally the ready made wav files are camera and speed specific - which really helps!
Would really appreciate your views! Thanks!

Been playing around with Audacity & some Tomtom voice files I found on the web.

Downloaded a voice pack, extracted all the files.

Has a file data115.chk, I can use Audacity to play the first sample but after that I cant get anymore to play from the folder.

Any ideas from someone who has managed to get TT files working?

Cheers

I could point out that this is the message thread for Voice Utility, but that would be mean...

There is no uninstaller (or installer, for that matter) for either Camera Manager or Voice Utility - simply quit the application, and delete the program file ;)

Hi ASH I seem to be having problems still in getting my audio files in the right format to work in my pda / gps, I have notice your message

(There's no need to have the samples in any particular format - Voice Utility will convert 16-bit (linear PCM) or 8-bit (u-law or a-law) samples, mono or stereo, of any sample rate, into the correct format automatically.)

I have Audacity and have tried several different options but can't find one that will play the file when recompiled and sent back to the gps, but at least I don't have the problem anymore were other files that had not been modified are being corrupted, can you help

Thanks Phill

Hello, I have a problem with Garmin Voice Utility 1.0.0.0.
I can split the files, but no chance to join them, the tool is complaining that it can not reach the licence server and I have to check my internet connection... Why this ? (I also tried temporarly to disable the firewall, but no change).

I'm trying to take tomtom voices and port them to garmin... somebody has already done this job for some voices ?

Thanks

PS: I own a ique3600 and on Nüvi660

The application can split the file, but when I want to join it complains because he can not reach the license server. why?
I also tried to disable zonealarm firewall, ut it did not change.

Thanks

Thanks for the conversion program.

I am using it to make the voice of my Zumo 550 louder.

Is it hard to make the program convert TTS also.

Greetings from Holland,
