Short term i would be ok settling for less providing I knew that the "Specs" were a possibility, in the not too distant future.
i was thinking short term at this moment in time (i.e. i wont be able to get it done for tomorrows release!!)

Do I take it the "Specs" in and out is going to be complicated, surely they must have the co-ordinates in their schedule, or isn't it as easy as that?
yes and no! as far as our database is concerned a specs is a specs is a specs and cannot distinguish between a start and an end specs. however, a simple way that should work is for me to add an extra tag that can be filtered for the DS database to specify start and end specs. i just need to confirm exactly how they work - if there are 3 cameras is it marked as 2 start points and one end to finish it all off? or would the middle one need to be marked differently (i.e. not 11 or 13)

i would presume so as the database format will use the format as posted by DS.
you can be a guinea pig when it's released tomorrow (with specs marked as gatso's for the time being.
when it's done with the specs info it will mark them correctly once i have the right info, until i have them marked as start or end they will be released as 'gatso'

Tomorrow, 8O as a DS owner we are only ever quoted "two weeks" which turns out as months or years, if you settle for a month we would be overwhelmed with excitement. :D :D :D

Not sure here as I have never had an input to the Formation of the software.
I would presume the first camera to be start and the next two as exit.
This working on the first being motorway, second on slip road and third motorway again.
I don't see three in a line on a road that often, when I have even the DS unit looked confused and I have assumed this is the "temp" specs being shuffled along the road so reading firststart and secondexit. _________________ TomTom Go 60

well, it might need some experimentation and it will definitely need some input from you lot but my mad idea for the start and end specs would appear to work.

ok, here's your mission: find your local specs
At the moment i'm in sunny Ramsgate, at least sixty miles away from the nearest "Spec", i might be going up to London Saturday, and that isn't confirmed yet.
Hopefully someone else will pick up from here to volunteer _________________ TomTom Go 60

Just a quick note ref the specs. Firstly I do apologise if any of this comes out gobildy gook but I am not that computer literate and half the time I dont understand what you lot are on about.
As I do alot of driving during the week I come across various different specs. Some have only two sets. 1 in and 1 out. Some have 3, 1 in, 2nd on a slip road, which is an out and the 3rd further along the original route which is also an out. Therefore if the the 2nd is not logged as an out your DS will continue to calculate for ever.
Then you also have specs on major motorway roadworks, or on the A14 round Huntingon to Cambridge, where they could have 3 or 4 or even more specs. Therefore in this instance surely they would all need to be specs in until the final one is a specs out.
Hope this makes sense. I will get some details on the next set I come across and try and give you the details.
Also I would like to confirm that as far as I am concerned I am happy to stick with yourselves, and pay the small amount, yes, the small amount that you charge for your database. As I have also learnt from downloading your database to my TT, that it is far more accurate than the DS one anyway. After the way we have been treated I am sure the rest of the DS members will agree.
Regards
PS keep up the good work. _________________ DS Unit

Here is a sample SPECs file I am going to test. If anyone can spot any mostakes speak up.
-1,21819;53,69426;40;1;1;80 Gatso set at 40
-1,18369;53,69538;50;1;11;90 SPECs start point set at 50
-1.16412;53.69411;50;1;13;270 SPECs end point set at 50 _________________ Wayne

Secondly the Stop camera needs its direction turned by 180 degrees
really??! hmmm... may have to think more about how to pull this off then... don't really want to have to reverse the heading as then those with directional warnings won't get warned of the last specs camera...
might have to add new categories to the database for specs start and specs end that only get used by the DS database... not ideal but if it keeps you lot happy then i can look into it ;)
Hi mikealder and MaFt, hope I haven't mislead you with the "Specs" in and out info.
When the exit to the first camera is on a motorway slip road, as well as leaving a second exit on the motorway, there is an obvious lack of cover on the slip road, but i suppose not every things perfect.
As i stated in the PM's I sent you, others know more than me, WLMOATE being the best to talk to, myself as a user it is trying to grasp how the cameras work, often the "specs" positions were out of sync, i'm not sure whether that was due to wrong info given on positions, or cameras on the move due to road works, but despite that it is a very useful tool on the outskirts of London.
Now this 180 degree turn has to be included, it all seems to be getting more and more complicated, I hope this extra work is worth it to all you dedicated software writers and most of all, the DS GPS unit, keeps going long enough for you to reap a benefit. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Regarding the software tool that the DriveSmart team recently provided on their website, that converts a database file from CSV format to a hex file, has anyone any idea as to why, from one input file, it creates two hex output files?
Banned or otherwise access is "zilch", just tried, couldn't get on. _________________ TomTom Go 60
