|
|
Hi All, I'm requesting your urgent guideance concerning my TT1V2.
Whilst on my journey tonight my TT1 started to struggle on voice guidance and camera warnings. It would crackle or stop halfway through words, until it fell completely silent.
No Guidance voices
No Camera warning voices (ogg Method)
No Sound (bells/polite etc)
The unit has had a hard reset and a soft reset. No change so far.
Any advice appreciated. _________________ TVR

Hi Aitch,
Thanks for the response.
I returned the TT1 to Halfords today. Boy was I Bl**dy annoyed. Here's why; I bought the unit 27/12/06 whilst it was on offer, knowing that it would be my prezzie for my 40th Birthday (16/2/07). Like you do I got it home. Checked it worked and backed up the card and updated the firmware. Happy in the knowledge that it worked ok. Put it back in the box until 16/2.
Big day came. I did another backup, added PGPSW speed camera database. Added the warning voices (All on a new SD card). Sorted chuffed :D ready for work Monday Morning.
Then on Friday came to navigate to the Reebok stadium for the big match only to find NO SOUND. AFTER only 4 DAYS. :x
I Took it back today, just get an exchange, I thought. NOPE TomTom would only offer a repair! But..,But, my consumer right day's I can have a replacement as the item is defective and not fit for purpose. Manager non comital, so I spoke to TomTom direct, whilst I was there. TomTom would "only accept the unit back, as a repair. Because the unit is more that 30 days old. "
So I ended up sending it for repair. I was promised a return of upto 10 working days. So let's see. Tom Tom where watching..... I'll update this page on the unit's return
I'm off to check my consumer rights. _________________ TVR

Unfortunately, I think you have been fobbed off. Your contract is with Halfords and not the manufacturer. So, putting you on the phone to Tomtom got Halfords "off the hook" as you accepted the repair option.
For others reading this thread be a little stronger in your conviction and read the DTI factsheet that I have put a link to.
http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact-sheets/page24700.html
Speaking in a loud voice - not shouting - is a really good way because the people in the store don't like it. And, the consequence is that they will tend to give you a replacement rather than a repair.
I hope you get your units back soon because when they work they are good.
Regards |

RQ,
Many thanks for that.
I am not going to let Halfords shirk their responsibilites here. I will go back to Halford to advise them that they have failed to offer me my consumer rights and that this so called 30 day policy may be illegal. I may even seek compensation. Who knows.
Having said that guess who WON'T get my furture custom.....
Gazboro - Let me know how you get on. Funny how you have the same fault. I was told that this type of failure was rare....

Update:-
Tom Tom - Now have denied that they offered me the return of my TT1V2 in 10 days and are stating that they will have it 10 days MINIMUM.
Halfords - Manager was a whitness of my conversation with TomTom, and told them so, that the offer was made. When I raised Consumer rights act 2002, he said that he was also disgusted by TomToms attiude and offered me a temporary replacement until my unit returns. - Fair enough :o
Result so far:-
TomTom - Lost all faith & Credibility
Halfords - Whilst not perfect, have regained some credibilty. :o
Will keep you informed. _________________ TVR

Well the latest is this:-
Halfords:- After sendin my TT1V2 to TomTom for repair receive a phonecall to say that my unit is repaired (A1) and is being posted back to Halfords. Manager explained that there is "Something unusual going on, because they've 'posted it' using the royal mail when usually the use DHL". Although he was given a tracking number. (This was A WEEK LAST THURSDAY)
I Entered the store last Tuesday to see if it had arrived - NO. Used tracking number to find out that my unit has been sent to the wrong address, signed for my someone we dont know and dont know where it is (tracking details show no address)! Tomtom where advised and said they needed a further 3-5 working days to sort it out. If they fail I get a new unit.
SO STILL NO UNIT 3 WEEKS LATER.
Scores:
Halfords:- 8O
TomTom:-
Is someone on this forum works for TomTom email me, please and explain yourselves (Like any one has the brass cahonies to do that!). _________________ TVR

It looks to me like a ficticious consignment, just to buy a bit more time.
SHAME ON YOU TOMTOM, only you could sink this low. |

Just a second here. Your contract is with HALFORDS not TomTom. If anyone's taking the mickey here it is Halfords who know full well what your rights are and always try to duck them.
By law, TomTom have no obligation to deal with you at all for warranty issues. That's the retailers role. _________________ Darren Griffin |

No Darren you hang on, it WAS NOT Halfords who sent this Consignment to the person concerned, if it was ever sent at all.
As for the consumer rights aspect fair enough that is Halfords problem. |

GO-GO-910, my reply was to the OP who I have no doubt can speak for himself. As I doubt you were there and so can provide no useful input why not just re-read what I posted. Who said it had been posted by Royal Mail? Answer = Halfords. As TomTom are in Holland I'd be very interested to know how they used Royal Mail unless it went to a UK agent which would be a first.
My point was that blaming TomTom did not change the fact that your legal rights lie with the retailer. In this case if Halfords sent it away then they are responsible to the customer for ensuring its return. Your beef with TomTom aside, Halfords cannot hide behind the dodges they and many other retailers use to avoid having to provide the service and rights they are legally required to offer. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Guys,
Lets not argue amongst our selves the problem here are TOMTOM's.
Firstly as far as halfords are concerned the "reasonable period" as stated in your consumer rights is 30 days. (Totally unreasonable in my opinion). Secondly TomTom have issued instructions to THEIR RETAILERS that THEY will not accept the costs of issueing a new unit based on warranty after a 30 day period. totally unrealistic.
The missing consignment went to "Blackfriars" postal depot in London, when I'm in Yorkshire.
TomTom's Problems are going to be at tomtom's cost. I have already advised the Halfords concerned that I will be seeking compensation from Halfords/Tomtom.
An upgrade to a 910 might just easy my blood pressure! _________________ TVR
