For the last week or so I have had trouble updating the speed camera database to my C710.
Mio-sync returns “An unknwon (sic.) error has occurred!”
Anyone else experiencing this? |

Hi, I've got a C510 & have been having the same problem. Seems to have been since I put on AVG anti-virus. I've been tring to resolve it in their forum & they've run out of ideas & sent me here!
Is there anything that you've installed that would have created this problem? |

I think that's a coincidence. I've always used AVG and it was not a problem when I was using mio sync. If you have a firewall that is a more likely problem. You might like to temporarily remove it and see if that makes a difference. Of course, mio sync is redundant now.

Hi Sal
Seems strange that I've had MioSync since early December & it's been working fine with my firewall, which hasn't changed.
What do you mean - MioSync is redundant now? |

Hello guys,
I have the same problem and Mio wrote me today (after my 3rd request!!) that they have problems with their servers. I shall try it again in a few days. I'm not sure if they worte the truth. I would like to know if there is anyone who can download updates via MioSync at the moment?

Thank goodness for that! At least I know my stuffs OK & I can re-install the Email Scanner.
Would still like to know what Sal means about it being redundant? |

Because if you use the infinitely superior PGPSW camera database you will never need Mio Sync again!

Thank goodness, I feared it was just me!
To my knowledge nothing has changed in my antivirus (AVG personal), nor in my firewall apart from the usual scheduled updates.
I think MioSync had a transient glitch a month or two ago, but it soon cleared.
I also have had no response from Mio support regarding my recent email enquiry.
If it is a server problem, would a notice on the web site be too much to expect?
Mio customer service really does have a propensity for shooting the company in the foot.
When people ask ‘What Sat-Nav should I buy?’, what can we tell them? |

You are in the right site already - just navigate to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php
and read it all there. Sign up and you can get the best
selection of Safety cameras every month. Well, that's my personal
view. _________________ Gee-Pee

I think I found something very interesting on ftp://ftp.mio-tech.be
There you can download the file speedcam data.rar 2312 KB 08.03.2007
But it's password protected. Perhaps anyone has an idea for it? |

I solved the problem!!!
Since today there is an update for MioMap available. You have to update it but I got many HTTP connection errors. After updating, it was possible to synchronise via MioSync. Everything works fine. Hope you will have luck too. But I'm still interested in the password for the RAR file :D |

Many thanks SonicHH.
After downloading and reinstalling MioSync I can now retrieve the updates.
It would have been nice for Mio to tell us.
After all, an email costs nothing . . .
To avoid the possibility of coincidence, it might be interesting for anyone who is having difficulty with the synchronisation to try again immediately before and then after reloading Miosync. |

And mine. I have compared the two camera databases in detail and found the PGPSW one is far more complete and up-to-date. Also the Mio one has many duplicate entries.
If you want to use a camera database then you need one you can trust. Otherwise, what's the point of using it?
