When i enter a postcode (RG12 4UZ), nothing else seems to happen, should the system default to the street and then ask for the number?, or am i expecting too much?
The nearest i can get is to scroll down to the address where RG124 is shown and then find the address as it is with the city search!
Also can i cut the voice directions down but have a loud notice for the cameras?
Thanks |

What device are you using the TTN5 software on?
If its a PDA you need to add a folder named tomtom to the root of the memory card, don't leave a space in the postcode just enter it as seven digits RG124UZ and it should work - assuming you have installed the postcode data from the disk - this resides in a folder named zip in the root of the memory card.
For the voices you can install a silent voice so you get no directions but full volume for spoken camera alerts, have a look at Ray's site Here - Mike |

Mike, I am on a Dell X5. When i go onto the CF card i show two floders, i is Great britain map, the otheris the GB postal file (which i assume is the postcode one?)
THE GB map has all the pio .incl the gatsos and sevral others.
I have made a new folder in this file marked tomtom and transferred the zip file to it. However when i enter a postcode in the postcode line at top of pda it still sits there after i have entered the full postcode. soory to appear dense on this but should i unzip the file into the tom tom folder?
I did download the postcode file off of the tomtom CD
Oh and thanks for the site to visit |

You appear to be entering the postcode in Navigate to Address
Instead go to the next page and choose Postcode.
The tomtom folder needs to remain empty.
The zip folder just needs to go on your card. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Thank, i must be a real muppet on this, as i dont follow what the root directory is!!
First, i have used the postcode , and get the word postcode along the top, with 1-5 and 6-0 below the wite area, and then thw alphabet. When i put the postcode in the top line, nothing happens!. should it default to the road mthe postcode covers and ask for a number?
second, i have connected the pda to the pc and examined the CF card that has the info on. I click on my pocket pc, then CF card, this brings up two folders Great Britain map, which has all the files inc the poi and ov2 files. The other says zip. clicking on this bring up a file marked great britian postal double left click on this icon shows it to be
type postal file
location \cf card\zip
size 8.41mb
i cannot unzip this
Are these files in the correct location, if not under what heading/file should they be filed
Thanks

Tap this entry and you will progress to the next screen.

Are these files in the correct location, | That's correct. That is the Root of the Card. The highest level you can get. _________________ Richard

Richard,
I go to the postcode section, and type in the code ,say CT5 4TR, in the postcode line, it then shows me in the 'white'section, a list of postcodes
CT5 1 (Whitstable)
CT5 2 (Whitstable)
CT5 3 (Whitstable) etc etc
Selecting CT5 4 it then gives a list of roads starting with
A290
A299
A2990
Acton Road CT5 etc etc
This happens wheter i do the postcode as CT54NR or CT5 4NR except that with the one with a gap it shows CT5 4 as first choice.
So i have to scroll down to Nightingale Ave and selct the house number, which i could have done anyway by using the address. icon
Any idea where i (or the program) is going wrong, as in its present state i cant seen any use for it!!
Thanks

Ron, What hardware are you using the TomTom software on, also can you let us know the version (tap the sat strength meter, and you will see the version on the right side of the screen).
I have seen this behaviour with version 5,0 on devices with built in keyboards before, might not be the case he but worth checking - Mike |

This is what happens when the TT can't find the ZIP Folder.
The usual remedy is the empty TomTom at the same level as the ZIP Folder.
Just create a Folder on the Card and call it TomTom. IIRC that is the way you have to name it. _________________ Richard

No bad news, when i put in the postcode it comes up with the streetname. Hurrah!!
Mind, i cant fathom out how adding an empty folder cured it, but i am not going to lose any sleep over it
Thanks to all who assisted me
Was well appreciated, |

Have you followed the instructions above with regard to the empty TomTom Folder? _________________ Richard
