You cannot legally copy the maps from a 910 to another device this is against the EULA license, so asking for advice on this topic is against the forum rules - Mike |

I'm looking to take TomTom to the USA this year and am thinking of buying the maps. Has anyone used them, are they of good detail.
With the TT700 where do you load the maps?
Do you create a new directory?
Any advise would be useful
Thanks |

I think you'd be hard pressed to add the full seamless USA/Canada onto your 700 because of space restrictions but you should be able to load a few individual area maps. |

I purchased the new USA maps and used them in Jan this year. I am not an expert but to me they were a good buy as I got them as an upgrade. I did not find any mistakes in the Orlando area and they took the pressure of my wife the map reader. |

Re space: AFAIK you should have no problem fitting the complete us map on a Go700.
I don't have one so am only going by what I've learnt on the forums but the 700 has a 2.5GB hard drive and the US map is only 950MB.
Here's one post about it:
Quote: | 700 can play MP3s and even videos/movies with add-on software, and even with the all the maps of North America on the 2.5GB hard drive, I still have 1.5GB of space available -- that's a lot of MP3s and even movies. More importantly though, that's a lot of extra space for voices and future map upgrades. Since the X10 line still has some models running of SD card, I think that the 2.5GB of storage in the 700 puts it at the same level. |

Thanks for the views on fitting the maps on - sounds like its OK.
A point Mullet made Quote: | removing the European maps temporarily after backing up the GO700 to PC anyway.
|
Do the USA maps go in their own folder and if so how does TT know where they are?
That would make it easier to revert back afterwards - I presume there are USA POI's ( & speed camera info) available somewhere?

Yes, every map has its own folder with a descriptive name (some examples I've had are "Great_Britain-Map", "UK and IE plus major roads of WE" and "Western_"Europe"), so several can co-exist on the same SD card or harddrive.
You then manually switch between them in "Change Preferences" / "Manage maps" / "Switch map".
The name of the map that you see on-screen is NOT neccessarily the same as the name of the map folder (that name is determined by an entry in a text file with a ".pna" extension in the map folder. |

Thanks Andy that explains a lot - probably because I only have Western _ Europe I haven't seen the "Manage Maps" option yet.
It's seems easy when you know how!!
Might even try putting both on at same time when I get them if space allows. _________________ TT 700
