Does it work anywhere?????

I'm off to Tenerife soon for a much needed holiday & was thinking of taking my TomTom Go500.

Although it only has UK/major europe routes maps installed, I'm guessing that I can still use it for GPS location anywhere in the world.

The plan is to store my hotel location as a GPS favourite when I get there & then use the compass to navigate back there giving bearing & distance when we go off exploring in the hire car.

Will this work??????

no it wont all you will get is a blank green screen as there is no mapping for that arera on your device

As has been said, GPS is 'Global' but devices such as the TomTom need to be in an area covered by an installed map to function. Unlike a handheld GPS they don't offer the functionality you describe and cannot be sued for waypoint navigation in this way.

However, there is a 3rd party plug-in that adds these features, see:

Thanks Darren, downloaded the plugin & tried it with a quick local trip.

Works great!

Now making a note of the Lat/Long of various places on the island courtesy of Google Earth, so all I need to do is enter the Lat/Long & away I go!
