You will be amazed at how many safety van location sites there are on the motorways.
Hi Tim,
I have often found the vans behind a hedge or on a bridge where you least expect them, so i drive like the girl in the film The Exorcist, its no wonder that driving these days gives you neck ache.
Interesting about the DS not finding safety vans, I have sometimes found this, but as they often don't use the same spot again for months, (part of their strategy) I never know if we will ever get them all registered. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Thanks Rushkins, it reassuring to have your feedback on the database. Still haven't rushed out and bought anything yet as at the moment I am having the Golf GTI moted and checked over for the hols.
I don't remember any discussion previously suggesting that the "Laser Star" was infact a reversed engineered LPP. You learn something every day. 8)
NuttyNurse, this was discussed on the forum that DS used to refer to as the "real clown show" or something like that. Anyhoo, I found the GPS info I was after on this forum, but before I go please remember that GPS databases will only find fixed camera sites and advice on where a mobile trap may usually be, not where it actually is. And sorry about the following "suck eggs" advice but.... for that you need detectors, both radar and laser and the rule is that the laser detector will tell you you've just got a ticket (if it goes off at all), so you have to go to the dark side to do something about that.
Regarding bridge vans on motorways, I drive at night. Who'll pay double time for fewer catches? And it would make their kills per hour statistics look poor.
However tactics are changing as the world and his wife have GPS camera systems now and some areas have taken to shooting you from behind from on ramps.
As with all things when driving, complacency is the biggest killer.
Anyway, hope you guys are settling into your new home and bye.

Hi nomadros,
I guess I must have completely missed out on the

"real clown show"
or it just cleanly failed to sink in at the time. Funny old world really. On the one hand you have legislation to improve mental health throught the NHS which government is happy to take credit for, whilst on the other hand, with the proliferation of speed cameras and hidden lasers making us all increasing paranoid whilst the government this time rakes in the coffers. 8)

Another DS user here. Alarm bells seem to be ringing really loud, it certainly looks like DS have gone belly up but I notice the database has been updated recently. Maybe we should look at hacking the firmware / db's so we can use the PGPSW db?
I am now using my new Garmin Nüvi 660 alongside the Drive-smart, for a start (as a DS member quoted before) the DS looks like a taxi meter - the Nuvi is so sleek.
The DS was supposed to be the ultimate collector of cameras/vans etc, well without any updates (straight from the box) the Nuvi is giving me more positions of safety vans, at positions i have remembered them being in the past, so they are accurate - and this was travelling on the first use.
If somebody could come up with a Specs calculator similar to the DS, but within the Nuvi, i will throw my DS off the Medway bridge. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Hello professor jaskel, if thats you?
rushkins is aka Tim Stilgoe previously of the DS forum and I think he was hoping it was you! GJF is formerly GF from the DS forum and you will find others here also. So if you are the "jaskel" stop being defensive we are I'm sure all please to see you here given the great contribution you made to the DS forum and for the support you gave members, trying to resolve many of the problems they had with drive-smart.
Of course I'm sure you will be delighted to know I'm here also! 8)
If that is Aussie (beat the Pom's at cricket) Jaskel, great stuff, if DS want to be childish and as always keep their head in the sand, who cares.
We are all moving on here and look forward to your humour. 8) _________________ TomTom Go 60

No need to be worried - I think there are quite a few ex-DS forum members who have moved over here. Glad to see you again. _________________ Red Squirrel

Sorry jaskel if you got the wrong impression, I was glad to see you, and as you were the only person we could rely on in the DS forum there is no need to be defensive. I'm sure you are more fed up than the rest of us, considering all the hard work you put in trying to turn them around.
I'm sure I can speak for all the former DS members in thanking you for trying to do so.
Having said all that I reckon it was you that pulled the plug seeing as you lost the cricket and you couldn't face the embarressment of losing to a bunch of no goods as you kindly reminded us often enough. :D
Hi Wayne, glad you're here, we had wondered where you had gone.
I entered a post HERE discussing pgpsw database on DS.
Now you are here, please help us through as to how to install it.
I (and I think I can talk for most of the other DS users on this forum) have doubts on the sincerity of the DS updates, so would value your help as an expert DS user. _________________ TomTom Go 60

Thanks Wayne, will try that tomorrow, I presume that speech, Spec camera calculator etc stays the say - hope so.
At least it will give the machine extended use, as i still feel it is worth having next to the Sat Nav. _________________ TomTom Go 60
