Thanks one and all. I did indeed have some 'extra' cameras in there somehow, including all the 'freetrial' Tom Tom ones which I have now removed.
I look forward to trying them out again on the M25, (not really )
As a matter of interest...the cameras with the question marks...how long does it take for them to be officially ratified, and who does it ?
One other small point, there is a so called, mobile camera spot listed near me, that to the best of my, and neighbours knowledge, hasn't been seen in use in years, and checking the Sussex police site regularly, I have never, ever, seen it listed. I have removed it as it is very annoying as a local user. I did report it to GPSWorld but didn't hear anything back, and the camera is still showing. |

Yesterday I travelled on the M42 between the end of the M6 Toll and the M40 as a passenger in a colleague's car. He had TomTom Navigator 6 on his pda with the latest PGPSW camera database. It did pick up some of the overhead camera locations, but by no means all of them. I couldn't check to see how he had it set up but it was alerting for variable speed cameras, so it looked to me as though some locations were missing from the database. |

Remember that not every gantry, even with speed warning signs and white marks on the road will actually have cameras fitted to it (and I think possibly the others on the M42 have a dummy camera box fitted). Both the M42 and M25 variable speed limit sections should alert to the gantries (and only those gantries) that have real camera capability. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

The missing locations I'm referring to definitely had camera boxes on them. How do you know if they're dummies? |

Seems to me that we are all likely to get 'caught out', unless somehow both the M42/M25 are properly researched...meanwhile, watch the warning signs very carefully. |

There is a technical difference between a live and a dummy box. I believe a couple of PGPSW users drove the section and studied each gantry and noted down the correct detail. Once this was done they used the submit camera updates webpage to correct the data.
If you search these forums you should find the ensuing thread when people thought some of the cameras had been incorrectly deleted. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Back in the good old days, those multiple M42 warnings blaring at me for almost every gantry, used to send me up the wall - at the very least, have they got so much money they can afford to have 8 cameras (4 lanes both sides) every quarter of a mile? I too drove that stretch yesterday and again today (both ways each day). It's not as if I can miss those b*** great brightly shining speed limit signs over all the gantries. I was relieved when I first drove there after they'd been weeded and was so yesterday and today. Frankly, one warning is enough to remind me, irrespective of where the cameras are. Yesterday there was so much traffic I couldn't have gone over the temp 50mph even if I'd wanted to. Today, with the 50mph applied both sides, I saw absolutely no congestion for the other side as I approached from both directions, no justification for the signs (you'd expect to see the other - exit - end congested). Both sides had free flowing traffic with good sized gaps at all times. It's about time somebody had a proper go at whomsoever is in charge of those variable signs - looks like they are switched on at about 7am and off again at about 7pm. Not much indication of anybody actually monitoring the CCTV for traffic problems. _________________ Dennis
