Calm down, dears :-) If LiaMar_17 has an activation code or indeed a legitimate software code then I would have though TomTom should allow to download a replacement map. He is not getting something which he hasn't had before and there are no costs involved - it's not like TT will have to manufacture the maps for him. |

Exactly our point, Eldar. TOMTOM may well help, but if anyone else sends him copies of maps, POIs postcodes etc. they WILL be breaking the EULA.
As a moderator, you will obviously be fully aware of the oft-repeated posting guidelines of this forum, which is what we are trying to follow. |

Quote: | Have you got a back-up of the card on your PC? if so simply copy that to a new SD card and put it in the device, if you don't have the required files on the PC I would suggest you contact TomTom support and see if they can offer any assistance, UK phone number is 08451610009
You won't get people e-mailing files of this type from the forum as it is against the rules, so please refrain from asking for them - Mike |
Plus LiaMar_17 has stated TomTom have always been unreasonable and in this case they told him to purchase a new card at £££'s.
I'm with Andy_P2002, however, have we have a lack of brains maybe we have both got it wrong. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

You will be breaking EULA if you
a) make more than one backup of the software
b) copy the software on more than one SD card
c) copy the software on an SD card AND make a backup
d) lend your TomTom GO to a friend
e) send a copy of the Manual to a friend
I can safely assume that you are also breaking the EULA :-)

Slightly more passionately than strictly necessary perhaps? :-) |

Never make assumptions, it can be dangerous...

ONLY after being told (by implication) that we have no brains, by an OP who shows a staggering lack of understanding for someone who professes to work in a computer shop (and we can guess which one if it employs HIM!).
No big deal... I'll just ignore him from now on. |

OUCH, Eldar, please say you're Devil's advocating just a teeny little bit - I'm not sure how many extra SDs and PC copies I've got 8O !!! But I did refrain from my usual rant about piracy when I first saw the OAP, hoping someone else would say what Andy and Lost Property have done. I agree with them. If/when I dispose of my TT devices, I shall put the backups onto a CD and pass them on with it and delete them from my machine, which is what I did with my GO300 a year ago. The friend I sold it to got it complete with pgpsw cameras AND pgpsw website details - even though I believe he's registered, I wouldn't give him a copy of the camera database now. I have a feeling that "helpful PC store staff" might just be adding to the piracy problems and should know better. What's more, I'd expect him to have an inside track to the TT rep for getting special help in his situation. Or don't reps help potential business opportunities these days? _________________ Dennis

You are breaking the terms of the EULA then - just read what Andy quoted a few posts before.
By selling you device (which you obviously intend to do) you will violate the EULA "This License is non-exclusive and non-transferable."
By letting your friend, wife or cat use the software you are violating the EULA "You agree to maintain the Software in strict confidence and not to disclose or provide access thereto to any person."
Now to our friend LiaMar_17
"This EULA grants a license (“License”) that permits you to use the Software"
No problems there - he has the license to use the software and he is not trying to obtain an illegal License (through a code generator) or get an illegal access to the software (by using a cracked application).
So you have no grounds whatsoever for having a go at him, but you can have a good anti-piracy rant at Oldboy who keeps TomTom software on his site.
On the other hand, anybody who supplies LiaMar_17 with the software will be in breach of the EULA. |

My final word in this thread.
We all know how easy it is to obtain "cracked" activation codes. That in itself seems a good reason not to copy maps to anyone. |

Thats a valid point...
TomTom should allow you to download the software if you have valid product code via their website...

Oh my goodness! Having bought it I can't sell it secondhand. When I allowed my wife and/or my grandson, sitting beside me, to input our destination, I was in breach of the thingy. If I were to employ someone to drive my van on my behalf (say when I'm away on holiday), I'd be breaching the thingy if my GO were to be in the van for him to use.
I have to say that whilst I strongly defend copyright etc, if TT were to attempt to "have" me for the above, they'd lose in court - "unreasonable" conditions of contract.
I'm off out of this thread now before they come for me. _________________ Dennis

Oh NOOOOO! I'm going off to hide in your website and bury myself in tips and tricks - it's about time I did that instead of lumbering through without even RTFMing _________________ Dennis
