Hi Folks,

word of warning, i recently purchased an Axim, and with the inclusion of a few nice games, i realised that my touch screen wasnt protected during playing etc.

(oo it gets worse).....

So i toddled off to ebay, and purchased a pack of screen protectors (4 days ago.!)

Finally they arrived, and i had a few problems aligning the sticky protector pad onto the screen, but after about 5 mins (and a domestic with the missus for getting ratty.Laughing Out Loud) i managed to align it and make sure there were no air bubbles on the screen at all. i was well impressed with myself.!! you couldnt even tell there was one on.!!!

Now i could use my pda without the worry of harming the screen.......and here it is...............

The bloody screen protector i had waited 4 days to receive, and fought with the get on straight had disabled my touch screen, i mean, i wasnt able to click, press open anything.!!!!!!!

and as my first screen asks for a password, and i was unable to enter.......wow how i cursed...........Laughing Out Loud

so after taking 10 mins to finally get the thinging mebobby thing off, im back to square one, and unhappy.........Laughing Out Loud

ooo how i love fridays..... Thumbs Up

Sorry about the double post, but this site is running really slow, and it went on error, so i must have hit refresh, and it added it twice.

Cheers

For a decent screen protector, check out WriteSHIELD from Pocket PC Techs. They're available in the UK from Expansys. I recommend the Deluxe pack - the cleaning spray and extra cloth are well worthwhile in my opinion.

Cheers for that David & Darren.

Just goes to show you get what you pay for..... Crying or Very sad mine were only £5 had cleaning cloth etc, and to be fair they looked ok and also had a sticker on saying compatible with my pda.

Cheers

I'm at a loss as to why you lost touch screen with the screen protector applied. Were the protectors particularly thick?

Ye they were a little lick, but they seemed to be compatible with my pda.

heres what the page had on it:

Crystal Writer screen protector kit for the Dell AXIM X5.

Screen replacements are expensive for the AXIM, so why not protect your AXIM with a good quality screen protector.

Features:

Set of 12 screen protectors

Includes cleaning cloth and application card

Protects from scratches

Reduces screen glare

Improves handwriting recognition

Instructions included

Laughing Out Loud @ improves handwriting recognition (if only .!)

They sound like the ones I got. Had exactly the same problem.

Got them from PDAMods (can't blame them though, excellent service).

Im now going in unprotected... Smile

I can recommend the screen protectors available from:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/

I'd seen them recommended elsewhere, and took a chance and replaced my shiny (reflective) Targus one - it's the best screen protector I've ever seen (even at £5 each) - and it's washable!.

Non reflective, pleasant to "write" on, no change to screen sensitivity, thick and very protective. website looks a bit dodgy, but quick delivery.

I ordered a pack of the "official" Dell ones when I ordered my X5. Not wishing to state the bleeding obvious, but you did remove the backing sheet before putting them on the screen? (I'm assuming they do have a backing sheet, like the ones I have!)

I removed the backing. The only way I could get it to work was to put it on slightly to one side so it was lifted. Otherwise no touch screen

i eventually got mine to work....

the only thing wrong, is that you have got to "lay" them softly onto your screen, and everytime i tried to gently push out the air pockets (as it says to do) it locked my screen. so its either have bubbles all over your screen or dont use them. Sad

slimboyfat has hit the nail on the head.........thats the way i eventually got it to work (but with some small bubbles)

after playing monopoly or solitaire for a few hours (i really need to get out more.Laughing Out Loud) sometimes the screen freezes again, and i find myself peeling the protector up, and laying back down just so my screen works again .....come on inventors looking in.....think of a possible alternative Smile

Cheers
Nick

I think the only solution would be to buy better protectors. They cost about 40p each so you can't expect too much (should expect them to work though!!!) when other manafacturers are charging about a fiver each.

Has anybody else had any experiance with a dell x5 and writeshield, Brando or dell protectors.

TIA
