My Ipaq is under 1 year old but one of the first things I did with it was to upgrade the ROM from 2.15 to the latest 2.20. Does anyone know if there is a way to reflash the ROM back to 2.15? Thanks for your help |

You sure did a backup of your old ROM image before you updated to 2.20? The backup is part of the reflash process. If you didn't do it maybe someone else did and can supply you with the image. I assume you have the UK version, so that image MUST be in the UK version as well.
Why would you want to revert back anyhow? _________________ Lutz

I don't think I have the image any more. Does anyone else have this?? I would be greatful if someone could get in touch with me. I have the UK version.
Reason is, I want to sell my Ipaq but I know someone who wants the Ipaq 3870 with the original ROM and is willing to pay more money that I would get for it with the newer ROM. I'm just trying to get more cash :D |

I seem to recall the Compaq (HP) site had the original rom available for download. I don't think they had any reason then not to make it downloadable.
It's a different matter for PC2003 as that's a paid for upgrade.

mshah,
Is your iPAQ 3870 running 2002 or 2003? I suspect that it’s running 2002.
If you check here, you will see the HP software and drivers web page for H3870, running Microsoft Windows for Pocket PC 2002. There are the two ROM versions: 2.15 (10 December 2001) and 2.20 (24 June 2002)

Thanks for all the help. Yeah, I've got PPC2002 which is what the Ipaq originally came with. The only thing I'm concerned about is when I select the language for the ROM is only gives English(US). Hopefully this is also the same one for UK models. Thanks again for your help!! |

There's no English (UK) localised ROMs. If there is a specific English (UK) version of a program from HP use that - otherwise use the English (US) version.
From memory, the only English (UK) programs there are for the iPAQ are keyboard drivers - because the UK keyboard layout is different to the UK one!
If you have a backup of a ROM, it seems that it's best not to use it unless you don't have the full updater version of that ROM. There were problems reverting using a backup on the 3900 series - sometimes using the backup to revert to your previous ROM version wiped the asset details, necessitating sending the iPAQ in for service so that you could use hardware locked programs (including TomTom Navigator 2) again.

Does anyone know the average price for an Ipaq 3870. Very good condition, 1 owner, with receipt, all the original stuff that came with it including the box. About a year old. Thanks |

The easiest way to assess its current value is to check what prices similar spec models attain on eBay. _________________ Darren Griffin |
