Pocket GPS World Speed Cameras on Route 66 vs 7

Note This is for the Pocket PC version of the software not the Smart Phone installation, but we are informed it also works corectly on the RAC PNA devices using the Route 66 software, please see HERE for additional details, many thanks to thesouthtoonarmy for confirming this.

1/ Download the camera database, in the dropdown box select “Route66”, in the next dropdown box select UK- Speed Zoned complete CSV (23 files, and I don’t understand why you would want anything less than this) – Save this to a know location, for example (c:/Route66scameras) create this if you are not too sure right click the desktop of the PC and select “New Folder”, then call it Route66scameras.

2/ Dock and connect to your PDA with the PC, select all the bmp and csv files stored in the above folder (should be 46 files in total), Right click and select “copy” from the pop-up box.

3/ In Windows Explorer go to mobile device/ Storage Card/ POIS/ Britain then right click and select “Paste”, this will copy the required files across to the device.

4/ If you find the Storage Card/ POIS/ Britain folder doesn't exist simply create it before copying the files across to the device

Audio Warnings for POI’s (what’s not in the manual)

On the SD card of the Pocket PC there needs to be a folder named POI resident within the SPEECH folder, if its not there create one, drop your audio files into this, they must be of the .OGG file format, try the Liz Whit voice as it sounds great in use with Route 66.
For a source of these files visit This Page, where Andy P2002 has brought together a collection of different ogg audio file sets. I appreciate the page says its for TomTom, but these files will work with the Route 66 software

Configure each of the warnings, once you have performed the above fire up Route 66 on the PPC and tap the screen, select the “POI” icon (lower Left) then POI Alarm (middle Left) then select each camera in turn and configure as required in terms of screen position, distance, on route or not, finally select the sound you want per camera icon.

A word of warning with respect to the "warn if POI on Route", this really does mean is the POI on the route, with very little margin for off route locations, I have un-ticked the box on my device as I found it too unreliable in the local area, where a large number of mobile cameras are on parallel adjacent roads.

I find the best solution is to turn the "warn if POI on Route" on for everything except the mobiles as many of these are located on bridges and will not be picked up on the road they are checking.

I have Route 66 Mobile 7,

I am trying to find out if i can update the Speed Camera / Poi on this from the Speed camera section. I know they say Route 66 PPC, would this work with the Mobile 7 or is this not supported if so where could i find the correct files.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help

I have just subscribed to this site thinking that I could use the Route66 Mobile 7 PPC version POI's in my Route66 Mobile 7 Symbian version. Looking at the instructions for Route66 Mobile 7 I do not have any of the folders or files present for this app so I too am wondering if I can usye this database in Symbian Mobile 7. Has anyone successfully added these POI's to the symbian version of Route66 Mobile 7???

I followed the instructions for PPC on my Orange SPV C600 and it all works perfectly.

:P Have been looking for an update for my Wollies RAC Sat nav for weeks. Have done exactly as above and all seems ok although I hav,nt tried it out on the road yet. Many thanks if it works. I have used a diferent SD card, saving the original rac one in case it fails me. Not good that the RAC havn't replyed to mine or other peoples emails. I notice they don't have this satnav on their web site anymore although Wollies are still selling it. Perhaps the rac folk thought they would just sell them thinking we wouldn't be too clever and want any after service updates.....

I just bought Route 66 Mobile 7 from Total PDA and installed it on my Orange C600 Windows Mobile 5 phone.

They must be including speed camera files with the software now, as mine already has these CSV files in the POI folder:
Redlight and x.csv
Secton Speed x.csv
Speed x.csv
Buslane Control 30.csv
End Section Control 30.csv
plus a couple of others

(replace x above with the various speeds, i.e. 30, 40, 50 etc)

The question I have is, for some reason the speed cameras don't show up on the map. It shows up all the red light camera icons (presumably from "Redlight and x.csv for example), but nothing in the "Speed 30.csv" seems to appear.

Everything is ticked as per the rest of the categories and POIs, and i've even imported the 'speed x.csv' files into Autoroute to check them out and they work fine.

Anyone got any ideas?

Just a thought but are they speed related, i.e. you might only get a warning IF you are above the speed set for the camera? - I have never tried the actual inbuilt camera database, my copy only had two cameras installed for the whole of the UK - so I installed the one from this site instead.
I don't want to tempt you into speeding but.....?? (if you are at the limit, or just over when approaching a camera do you get a warning) - Mike

I've looked at pgpsw csv files and the ones that came with it, and both files are pretty much the same format, so I've no idea why some of the bundled ones show on the map, and some don't

I think i'll give Route66 a bell at some point.

I coped the files into the \Storage Card\POIS\Britain folder keeping their exiting file names. I copied the .csv and .bm files in, an it was working - ie I could pick them as POIs in the app, and set up warnings. I've had afew problems with the app in general, mainly with it starting up, especially when the GPS receiver is switched off, so have updated to the latest version from the route66 website.

Since then, I find that the presence of these files in that dir stops the app opening up, so have had to delete them all.

I've tried renaming the files to be the same as the default ones that Route 66 include, and various other little things, but nothing I've done has wored.

I emailed their support, but I may as well have walked into Dixons and asked a Saturday boy!
