After having pretty much the same problems as most people in this thread - I contacted Garmin for the second time explaining the mysterious absence of traffic data (ver 3.9) they offered a new GTM 10 insisting the problem was reception related, however the diagnostic screen implies message packets were been received, so I was reluctant to do this. The retailer is currently offering a complete unit swap after I went to great lengths to explain my nuvis' behaviour - seemed like the only way forward, with nothing to lose at this point I decided to reinstall (it already had this factory shipped software version 4.3) the main program code (ver 4.3) and hey presto traffic updates like never before, repeatable consistant updates, weird I know 8O |

There have been circumstances when a hard reset can "fix" a lack of traffic information before, which is similar to what you performed on your unit. |

Used Webupdater today and came across this list of changes for the GTM firmware - can't recall seeing this before - despite all the stated improvements I haven't received any traffic data since I upgraded to 3.90.
Changes from version 3.70 to version 3.90:
Improved Alternate Frequency (AF) processing. Improved station acquisition time. Improved FM table handler regarding overwrites of oldest stations.
Changes from version 3.60 to version 3.70:
Add fix for frequent traffic queue purging in Germany
When powering-up, automatically tune to last station tuned
Add FM table memory log to autopurge oldest station entry
Add support for Nuvi 6xx FM scan
Changes from version 3.50 to version 3.60:
Corrected problem with linked TMC message displays.
Increased FM memory table to 12 TMC stations.
Added support for alternate American TMC providers.
Changes from version 3.40 to version 3.50:
Improve receiver sensitivity |

Maybe good news?
Just rang Garmin support after not getting a response to my web support and the guy answering the phone said that they were aware of the problem and that a new version will be out "any day".
Certainly hope so!

Hi,
I've downloaded the GTM 3.90 firmware, but because I haven't yet connected up the antenna the firmware hasn't been reflashed yet (my unit is still showing GTM 3.70 installed).
So...is there any way of stopping the firmware update from happening when I connect up? (e.g. locating the firmware file and moving it out of the way?) Failing that, is it possible to subsequently downgrade to 3.70? (I can't find the firmware files anywhere on Garmin's site).
Thanks,
Gary |

for completeness in my understanding - is a hard reset when one powers the unit on whilst depressing the top R/H of screen |

So...is there any way of stopping the firmware update from happening when I connect up? | Although I know in principle what to do, I've never deleted the firmware file from the Nuvi (ie without replacing it with another file) to know the possible impact on the Nuvi itself.
There are other files which may have already been updated to supported the installation of the new firmware, and as such, this process could render your Nuvi useless, which means I'm not sure it's a good idea to try it.
I guess you have two options - 1 install the update and see if traffic still works - it does for me, 2 don't connect the GTM unit until a "better" firmware is released by Garmin. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Same problems after the update, just tried a hard reset and now have only 100.3 and 106.8 available instead of tm and tm-tmc. Getting loads of messages but no data available. |

Latest from Garmin support in the UK....
They reported the problem to Garmin in the US last week, but as yet they haven't received an indication of when the US will issue a fix. |

I have recieved the following by email from Garmin today. Not sure if it works as I'm out of range of a transmitter for a few days
Thank you, for contacting Garmin (Europe) Ltd.
To resolve the problem you are experiencing with your garmin unit:
You will have to got to http://www.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp
And download the unit software by running it on your pc with the unit connected to your pc.
After downloading your software
Turn unit off.
Press and hold your finger on the top right hand corner of the screen along with the power button. When unit powers up then release power button. Then wait for message about erasing user data to appear. Release finger when you see this message and then answer "yes" to it.
The unit will continue to the start up screen.
You may have to enable the European maps again by going into the settings menu, then go to map menu. At the bottom of the page you will see the option "info" click on this. Now make sure there is a ticked box next to City Navigator Europe.
First time after doing a hard reset the Nuvi may take up to 30 minutes to acquire satellites so please be patient.
Thank you
If you have any further questions please let me know. _________________ _________________

Tried a hard reset as stated above, but unfortunately no change whatsoever.
I checked the hidden menu, got max level of 46 on channel 179 (Century FM), but no traffic message count.
Well, we'll just have to wait & hope another firmware release fixes this problem. Hope it's not too long now, as Garmin have stated they know about the problem.
By the way, I sent an e-mail off to Garmin on 29th Jan, but have had no reply back. _________________ Nuvi 310 v3.90

Spoke to Garmin on another matter today but then asked about a problem I was having with the TMC.
Garmin asked if I had updated to version 3.90 of the GTM firmware and when I confirm this, they advised that there was a known problem with this version and that the programers in the US were working on a fix which they expect to be released in 2 weeks. |

Yes, I feel like a right clot, updated last week not having noticed these posts and my TMC went down from a 90-100% functioning traffic alert unit to 10%-15% on exactly the same daily commute. Garmin CS told me yesterday that it would be sorted asap but certainly before the end of this week so here's hoping. Lesson learned here. |
