I there !
Just posting this because it is a long time I haven't touch my TOMTOM GO classic and his Maps.
I have it since i.5 year, anf got it with the Maps of western europe. I remember at that time there were details maps for each country, as well as Major Roads for Each country (If I remember well) ...
I have after that bought the Upgrade Pack (Maps of 2005) ... which was 5 CD's for whole Europe.
I'd like to know what is the latest with the maps, now, since I'll need to go from Belgium to Italy in July.
With the current set of Maps I have, I think I just have detailed maps of each country, with Major roads outside the country. If I go to Italy, I need to cross 4 countries (Belgium - France - Swiss - Italy), and there fore I should use the detailed map of Italy, which will give the major roads for Belgium, France and Swiss ???
Or is it existing now an upgrade that would give the detailed roads of whole Europe, so that I can have detailed roads without switching the maps on the device (and therefore avoid problems in my itinerary ?)
I think this type of "detailed roads for whole Europe" is existing for new models with hard drive ... but is it existing for my TT GO, If I have big enough SD card ??

The latest maps can be installed from DVD and are country specific, country PLUS Major Roads (in some cases) or you can install the full Europe at street level, which as you correctly point out negates the need to switch maps when crossing border control points - you can fit this on a 1GB SD card, but as the prices of memory cards are so low I would get 2GB card, but make sure it is a high speed quality card (not a cheap copy from *-bay), alternatively you can purchase and download the map of your choice direct from the TomTom web site, make sure you have a broadband internet connection for this though - Mike
Thank you for the clarification.
I colleague of mine has the TOMTOM 850 (or 950 ?) with the full "detailed" Europe, and told me he needed no activation for this.
I rememner on the maps I gought, I had to ender an activation code, which was linked to my device ID.
Is there still an activation needed or could I take the maps of my colleague to install on my tomtom go ?
