To avoid losing her present maps, can I load the new ones on a new (empty) micro SD card?

But even if you lose the maps Robin then they are there on the DVD so you can't really lose them.... if you know what I mean.

No, I meant the v8 maps she is currently using - just in case the upgrade goes pear-shaped!

sorry for my ignorance but is sdhc cards the high speed ones? Do you think is possible to find a compliant 4gb then as this will cover me for quite long i suppose and from ebay they are not so expensive either.
No, SDHC is the new High Capacity standard. As such, a 4Gb card may well be a SDHC card, and hence will not necessarily work. You'll need to confirm whether the card is SDHC before purchasing.

Blimey Garmin just emailed me saying
Quote:
Sorry about the delay, this has been due to such a high demand. However the disks are currently being shipped and it should be with you by the end of next week.

I wonder whether that just applies to me or everyone who is still waiting...

Hi

Managed to update my I3 to V9 maps today but I have a question.

My I3 has the map data stored on the internal memory but the POIs stored on the memory card.

If I was to buy a bigger memory card would I be able to install the whole of Europe map data to this card & use it?

What size of memory card would I need to buy?

Thanks in advance

Lee

Can I just confirm you've gone from V8 to V9 on the internal memory? That's what I'm struggling to do at the moment - no problem putting V9 on a card.

Maybe it's the firmware version as I have 2.7 and don't really want to update and break something that's been working fine.

Yes, Had V8 in the internal memory & updated to V9.

My I3 is running firmware version 3.2

Guess it must be possible then. I tried everything I could think of last night:

Reinstalled mapsource because I think the first time I just selected "Install to PC" rather than update unit. Didn't seem to do anything different.

Updated to 3.2 firmware - no difference.

Removed POI's and did a hard reset - no difference.

Tried different USB ports - no difference.

Each time I can put maps on the card I bought, but not update the internal mapping.

Have you tried updating the i3 without the card loaded (obviously having taken a full backup etc. etc.)?

I thought you said on the 18th you had updated your i3 to v9 maps?

PLEASE HELP!

I have received the V9 mapping disk from Garmin…but I registered my unit in March (when bought) and can't seem to get an unlock code for it now.

From what I've read I understand you can only get a code if your unit is purchased after September.

But I bought the unit with the intention of using it in Ireland, yet when I got there realised the maps were very bare Sad (it says UK/Ireland maps on the box)…therefore this update would give me the maps I need (and originally promised).

Is there a way around this or am I totally off track.

Any help would be appreciated very much! Thanks, el

What have you received?
The full version DVD or the update DVD?
The code for a full version is packed within the card insert in the DVD case.

Until you register your unit here it will not be evident what you will get and at what price!

https://www.garmin.com/registration/selectreg.jsp

If the update is not free it could cost $70.

Yeah I've already gone through that process thanks, but I'm guessing as I registered it in March I don't get it free (think it came up as $80-90).

I just thought there might be a way around it...due to my original reason.

My i3 came with internal mapping. If I don't have a card in I get the error message. I had a spare micro-sd card so tried that and can put the update successfully on it via the unit. The i3 then lists both the v8 and v9 maps and I can turn the internal ones off. It works - just a bit frustrating not being able to update the internal one.

Just Got my DVD today.

I have unlocked it and I am in the middle of Updating the map in my i3.

When I select the maps to upload, the box at the lefthand bottom of the map box does not give me the oppotunity to tick so that it includes "route calculation data"

Does the i3 not need this? My i3 seemed to work ok on some test maps I uploaded on a spare card.

I believe that CityNavigator NT can only be loaded with route details so is normally 'greyed out'!
