As long as you didn't have any speed camera info for that country you 'should' be O.K.? Right?
It's not the SatNav devices they appear to be banning it's the warning of speed cameras (sorry, safety cameras) ahead. |

They are still arguing the toss, but it seems to be a badly worded law, making it hard to be sure whether it is units with 1. Swiss cameras, 2. any cameras, or 3. the capability to have cameras, installed that is banned. |

Thinking about it, I've been to Switzerland a few times and i'm off over there again in March, and I can't honestly recall seeing a Policeman in that country except in Basle 8O _________________ Tomtom Go730T

i think the "safety" camera stuff is bullsh-t anyway.. the original radar warning devices were always considered to be illegal in this country i think the "safety" camera angle is just a fudge around the issue of "whats the point in having cameras to catch speeding motorists when they know exactly where they are angle..
mind u it does seem to have enabled us to get away with having speed camera warning devices.. perhaps the swiss authorites are not so stupid..
having the cameras in the first place is big brother.. the fact big brother lets u have a device that tells u exactly where they are seems odd to me.. thow it does fit in with the "cleary visible" and not hidden factor..
with the fixed gatsos it works a treat with mobiles it just takes your eyes off the road while u look for something that mostly isnt there..
they do say switzerland is very anti-car thow.. everyone owns a machine gun but they dont like cars.. he he
a strange place is switzerland.. it seems to live by its own rules..

Too right about Switzerlan being a strange place!!! Lived ther for nearly 3 years and:
1. A friend was denounced for
a) Flushing his toilet (in a block of flats) after midnight, and
b) bathing his 2 year old kid at 10 pm.
2. You can practice shooting 7 days per week - but cannot mow your lawn on Sunday (due to noise!)
3. The last week of each month is the worst time to be caught speeding in Vaud and Geneva. Every available radar device was deployed and even 1 kph over the limit generated a fine. By coincidence the fines were retained by the police authorities and they were frequently overspent - leaving them with insufficient cash to pay salaries. _________________ Colin |

One of the reasons for getting a new GPS was due to a planned trip in June to Switzerland (or earlier - picking up a new cat so it depends when the passport for pets is ready - can't remember the exact date) and looking on the yournav thread it does appear to be any satnav with ANY revenue generating camera poi database - including other countries (quite why it should bother the Swiss that I've got the locations of all the UK cameras escapes me at the moment).
So guess I'll take my laptop and on the border I'll zap all the SC poi's and reinstall them comming back. (My work laptop has a hidden encrypted volume so could even use that to really hide it). |
