|

Hi,
Bought a Tomtom One v2 yesterday. Played around updating etc...
At first everything was ok. I could see the installed voices and maps on tomtom Home screen.
The I updated something, maybe the planning bit, and I think after that my One woudn't start.
I downloaded new version of Home and was able to update TomTom One software on the unit.
I could start it again.
But...
Now I can't read the SD card, only the update shows on TomTom Home, and reading SD card with my computer's card reader is no better. The MAP installed doesn't show. Hence I cannot update POIs etc.
The unit itself seems to be able to read the card and works just fine.
WHAT CAN I DO???
Thank you all for your help.
DrTimo
P.s. This forum is just great. |

Did you do a FULL BACKUP when you first got the unit?
What 'planning bit' did you update?
From the sound of it you've deleted your Map. If you haven't got a Backup, your best course of action is TT Support, on 0845 1610009.
Or return it to the Retailer stating that doing an Update wiped the Map.;) _________________ Richard

Is windows explorer configured to show all hidden files?
If your unit is working fine as stated, this is the only thing I can think of. _________________ Tomtom Go730T

Hi,
Well I haven't deleted the map since there is only 42 odd MBs left on it, assuming it's a 256mb card, and the TOMTOM One unit has the map and I can use it normally.
My windows explorer is configured to show hidden files etc...
The planning bit...the old version of TT Home had this feature called planning, or something like that. In the new version it seems to be just the ONE feature.
I mean, the maps and all the voice data are on the card. I just can't see them, neither can TT Home. The unit can though. The only files I can see are the updated files since I updated my TT.
Any ideas??
PS can I copy POI diretly onto the card without using TT Home? |

The principle is the same for POIs as for Safety Cameras, although you don't have to set Warn When Near. _________________ Richard

Well...
All that's good but I still don't have any of the original folders and files visible on the SD.
I ran a recovery program and it seems that all the original files are in the "lost" section, ie corrupted.
Hence, somewhere in the update process my SD card got corrupted.
I'm still wondering how come the TT One unit itself can still read these files that are corrupted to WinXP environment.
I guess the best bet is to take the unit back and get it replaced. |

You may well have just turned a recoverable situation into a "send it back" one.
You have to remember, the Go does not run on Windows. You can use Windows to move the files around, but many of them are formats that Windows does not understand.
For example the configuration files ending in ".chk" are essential to the Go, but as far as Windows is concerned, they are "recovered file fragments" or bits left over after a previous problem.
"Recovery" or "clean-up"programs may well delete these!
If the Unit is still working properly when disconnected, you've been lucky...
But if you cannot see the contents in Win Explorer when you do connect up by USB, then it sounds like a PC problem not a TomTom one to me.. |

Hey,
Not to worry guys...
The unit still works.
I did write protect the SD card during my recovery experiements. I guess something during updating must have made the files on SD card "not" compatible with windows. Didn't realise TT ran Linux, that would explain few things.
Anyway, the TT heldesk had no idea either and are sending DHL to pick the unit up on Monday. Suits me fine since can still use the One over the weekend on a long car journey.
Hopefully then can start complimenting the unit with speed camera warnings and all the great POIs found here.
Thanks to everyone for their help. |
