|
|
Ive just looked on the tomtom site and the N73 plus a few other nokias is back on the compatability list ( at first it was there then removed a few months ago )
I tried to run TT6 on a n73 and it was terrible, crahing and freezing all the time.
Can anyone tell me what, if anything has changed please ?

From what I can tell, nothing.
I updated the software on my phone and it now says it's version 6.010. However the software runs just the same, i.e. crashes and freezes all the time.
However now that TomTom are officially admitting support, I've sent a support request to them asking them how to fix the problem. I don't hold out much hope for a solution, mind. |

I got this reply from TomTom
Quote: | The Nokia N73 requires Rom version 3 to run the Navigaotr 6 software. You can check the Rom version on the phone by pressing *#0000#
Rom versions can be updated at Nokia Service Points.

Okay that's fair enough. But O2 won't let me update to Rom version 3, so I'm a bit stuck!! |

I was on O2 with my N73 and had the same problem . From reading on the internet it was said that it was still possible to upgrade firmware by de branding the phone whatever that means. Some people said it was not a good idea as it voids the warranty and the phone may die in the upgrade process so I didnt go down that road but bought a e61 instead .
If you are more brave ( or should I say more stuoid?) than me and dont mind doing a bit of research it may be worth looking into .
Good luck

Well I've since bought a TomTom ONE and just use the N73 for non-guided walking directions.
It would be nice to be able to get it working properly tho, not least because I've got full European mapping on it, which I haven't got with my TomTom ONE.
But I've had Nokia's fail on me many times before so I'm not about to go voiding my warranty. Perhaps I will see what O2 have to say on the matter. |

I emailed O2 and explained that I can't use the TomTom product without and upgrade to the firmware (which O2 hasn't authorised). They emailed back with.
Quote: | Hello Mark,
Thanks for emailing us to enquire about if you can use the
TOM TOM Navigator 6' on your Nokia N73.
We dont provide with the TOM TOM Navigator 6' service. If
youve any queries, please contact Tom Tom Customer Service.
They'll also tell you about the firmware version. You can find
the contact information by clicking on the link below:

It's obvious they failed to read my email at all |

Thanks for the update. The problem is that months agoI told my Father in law that he should buy an N73 and use that for sat nav.
So he bought a phone on my advice and now he has a phone he didn`t really want anyhow that does not work and also what would appear to be a dick head for a son in law into the bargain.
Hopefully it will only be a matter of time before O2 ok the upgrade.

I've been looking at the N73 and spoke to O2 about it. They tell me they have 4 approved software versions and two of them are 2.x software and two are 3.x software. |

I've got an O2 branded N73 here with TT6 on it and it runs perfectly? My ROM version is v2.0628.0.0.1 _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thats very strange. I could not get mine to run ok no matter what I did. I even tried a different memory card but nothing improved .
The odd thing was that for the first few days it ran ok and then after that it froze or restarted the phone at random (but usually within 10 minutes. )
I`ve read on here of some with working n73s and other where they don`t work but have been unable to figure out exactly why . Maybe it conflicts with another program, I really have no idea but if anyone figures it out will they let me know please?
Thanks

I have tomtom6 working perfectly on my n73 (debranded from O2 and upgraded to latest firmware)
I wife has tomtom6 running perfectly on her O2 n73 with the O2 firmware on. Niether have ever had a problem.
I run lots of other apps and games on my n73 as well and rarely get a problem.
Are you sure you have s60 v3 software? you probably got v2 |

I've got exactly the same setup, exactly the same ROM, and it is absolutely horrible
Basically the entire thing freezes whenever it reads out a voice instruction.
Can you run through a demo and see if the screen keeps updating while a voice command is being read out?
If so then we need to debug how our two systems are different |
