In that case the US page is correct then (I cannot believe I am actually saying the site is correct) - must be a mistake somewhere , TomTom don't sell the 710 over there, its just the 510/910 - Mike |

Get the same ‘QuickGPSfix’ data by simply connecting to any TomTom PLUS service, using a wireless data connection (GO 910 and 510 only). |
Thanks for pointing that out, BGF! Didn't notice that before. I'll have to check if it seems to work on the ONE or not. |

As this "QuickFix" is a weekly update from TT, I wonder which day of the week they will issue a new update?
If it issued for arguments sake on a Friday, but you only ever connect on a Thursday then it's of no use at all! _________________ (If it ain't broke, I can soon fix it) |

Hopefully daily, but with a week's validy for each download (ie a 'rolling week'). TT suggest 'at least once a week' - I think if it had to be a specific day that would indeed be problematic...
Or maybe it's a live 'feed' of satellite data - essentially as up to date as you'd get from the satellites themselves from your TT. |

Can any 710 / 910 owners not provide any input as this facility has been available for some time |

Wibbly.
Thats what I hoped it may be, but until it is verified by TT I suppose we must live and wait in hope. _________________ (If it ain't broke, I can soon fix it) |

I have 3 SD cards for my TT ONE :-
1. The original supplied card--safely tucked away as a last resort backup.
2. 2Gb card for daily use containing my European maps.
3. 1Gb card ready for my holiday containing full USA maps.
Will I have to connect to TomTom Home 3 times? , once with each SD card, so that it will download QGPSF 3 times, or will the TT's firmware be flashed up the first time, so that its a one shot upgrade.
Second question, when I arrive in the USA, I assume that I will have a long fix as TT wont know where I am ?( ironically, thats just the very time when I want it to latch on quickly!!).
I dont know whether to upgrade or not--I'm quite happy with fix times as they are, Has anyone noticed any drawbacks to updating with QuickGPSfix?
Scuse my ignorance re above

Just been digging through the darker corners of my mind and satelite almanac data is transmitted in the L1 data stream and is usually valid for a month or longer. So what does the Tomtom service give that the sat's don't? Or is the info from TT the empheris data? Again this is part of the L1 data stream but usually is of short duration.
Also does the TT data include data on outages etc? |

Not being picky ... really ....
but it is EPHEMERIS and for those who don't know what that is ...
http://www.garmin.com/aboutGPS
Quote: | Ephemeris data tells the GPS receiver where each GPS satellite should be at any time throughout the day. Each satellite transmits ephemeris data showing the orbital information for that satellite and for every other satellite in the system. |

My bad - I don't do spelling ;) (And the darker corners of my mind where I store redundant info is even worse than the rest for spelling). |

I see that the ephemeris data is stored in a folder called ephem on the SD card. However, this folder does not seem to be backed up via TT Home. I checked for updates and no new Home software is available - I'm on 1.3. Do you think this may be a problem if I need to restore? _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

Not really.
Taking a slight guess here but based on 'normal' gps devices...
After a full reset the device won't know where it is in the world and so knowing the ephemeris data for the sat's isn't going to be much use as it won't know which sat's it should be seeing until it has worked out where it is. As the ephemeris data is transmitted as part of the routine signalling from the gps constellation then after the initial first fix you should be ok. |

Maybe a first fix would even be slower if it thinks it has the data but the data is bad? |

Almanac data and ephemeris data are timestamped so if the validity period of the a/e data set is outside of the current time then it will not use them (or atleast shouldn't).
If the device has been hard reset I would hope/expect that all alamanacs and ephemeris data has been cleared out... |
