Hi
the RJ11 plug on the end of my receiver got yanked and is now intermittently faulty, I have tried every telecoms, computer place in my area, no-one can do RJ11, does anyone know a place that will fit a new plug on it for me ?

Unfortunately, since you haven't put your location into your profile, it leaves it a bit difficult to guess where you are!
If you can find someone to do it for you, DIY!
I know that you can get RJ45 plugs & crimper from PCWorld, but I'm not sure if they have RJ11. Your best bet might be RS, if you have one locally?

| I would take a look at Maplin - they o stock RJ11 and a range of low cost crimp tools etc, they also have shops nationwide. You will need to know the pin out of your device, so it might be worth contacting the manufacturer to make sure this data sheet is available - Mike |

If it's the usual clear plug, it should be possible to see the pinout.

Thanks for your replies, yes the plug is still attached, and curiously the black wire looks like it's stripped near the retaining wedge and may be shorting on the shielding ?
I was hoping not to have to buy my own crimper as from my experience there are many flavours of crimper in the BNC world for instance, and getting it right is tricky ! But I may go to Maplins.
I am near Heathrow BTW.

Damn, I was staying at the Park Hotel on Wed & Thurs, and would have offered to help, if you could get the crimper  A bit far for me now 8O and it could be months before I'm back at the office.
I know what you mean about getting the right tool, but if you get the crimper & plugs from Maplin's, you should be OK.

I managed to fix it with a crimper and plugs from Maplins,
JW43W FCC68 Plug 6P4C
JW50E Plas FCC68 Crmp 6P4C
the very fiddly part is that the black wire is actually the shielding so you need to get it inside some of the insulation so it can be crimped into the plug. It's a bit like tying a bow tie onto a fly ! Not good if you have sausage fingers or bad eyes !
Anyway my GPS works 100% now, and if anyone needs a crimper and 3 plugs they know who to call ! g_force *at* skunkbox *dot* com
If anyone needs one re-terminating I will do it for a tenner plus postage !

hi
i have this exact same problem.
wold it be possible for you to elaborate on how you solved the issue of the black shorting cable and possible the pin outs?
i have bad eyes so i just want to be 100% before i remake the end of the cable.
