Apart from the Miles or Km settings in POI loader, are there any other settings you can use when downloading custom POI's? I am interested in the Overspeed warning. On the TomTom Go, I remember you just ticked a box to set the warning but can find nothing on the Nuvi 660. This thing I thought was the bees knees of GPS systems seems to be rather light in some areas!
Thanks. |

Actually think it was my Navman Icn 720 you just ticked a box and set your speed limit. |

|

Thanks. Also which is the best camera software to use for the Nuvi 660? There is a choice of a) Mapsource, b) POIloader, Nuvi, c) Speed Zoned complete (24 files), d) GPSR map and Single File GPX. Do I have to use b - the Nuvi one? I remember on my other system, I used the Speed Zoned Complete one.
Thanks, sorry for the barrage of questions. |

Sorry, that's the one I use. This is the choice I get when I select Garmin from the database list. It's just that choice b has Nuvi in the title! It's for my 660. |

Hi Zogman, whats the verdict on the tomtom one ver2 then? Are you happy with it or not?
Anything on there better than the nuvi or worse, mapping, voices etc.
Cheers......Dil _________________ ***************************************

You can use either the POI Loader or Speed Zoned files. The advantage of the Speed Zoned file is the ability to have speed limit specific icons appear on the screen. However, you can also use Ash's utility, which provides a similar level of functionality. |

i'm very happy dil...(could be the drink left over from xmas)...no seriously the tt one v2 is more smoother on mapping and the touch screen is a delight to use, for instance i went to swansea to pick up a motorbike for my son and only got the sellers postcode via mobile phone whilst on the motorway. i punched in the postcode very quickly and the tomtom found the address and plotted a route in seconds...try doing that with an i3 ...although the garmins are sound sat navs , do we really need to be told ''recalculating'' every time we stray from our route... _________________ *************************** |

Right. Downloaded the Speed Zoned files and also Camera Manager. It just told me there was an update for my POI's and after the update, using the same POI folder I had used just before, my POI'd increased from about 35K to 60K. Why, the POI categories are the same? The only thing that seems to have changed is there appears to be more speed camera files.
Any idea please? |

To produce both a distance warning and an overspeed warning, Ash's utility creates 2 POIs for each speed camera, one with each warning. This is due to the utility being designed primarily for the i3. The 660 can support both alerts within the unit, and hence you have a choice:
1. The Speed Zoned file will use less POIs (and can support WAV files to tell you the speed) but it's more difficult to specify the exact distance at which the alerts occur.
2. Ash's Camera Manager does a lot of the work for you, but doubles the POI count, and doesn't support WAV files. |

Ah, all is now explained! As it doesn't seem to care how many POI's I have at present, I will leave well alone. Thanks for the explanation. |

Well, nearly explained! I have used the default settings in Camera Manager for both time alerts. Is this the normal or is there somewhere I can look to set them up?
Against the POI is a setting in feet ie 3000ft. Is this the setting that the first alarm goes for a speed camera as it seems a bit excessive? |

What speed limit is that for though? At 60mph, you will cover 1 mile per minute, and the laser guns can often work up to a mile away, so you need a fairly large distance to allow you to react in advance of the detection zone.
Best thing to do is to go and drive various local roads with speed cameras, and if you think the time is too long, modify the figures in Camera Manager to suit your own needs. That is the nice feature of Camera Manager over the Garmin POI Loader solution. |

Thanks, will try them out. Just wanted to know that these default ones were okay? Without trying them all out, they seem excessive.Doug |
