You don't "open", you "extract"!
The download is a zip archive. Double click on it then select "Extract all files" on the left of the window that opens up.
NOTE where it says it will extract them to.
When finished you will have a bunch of files (I can't be more specific as you haven't said what SatNav brand you have, or which of the database options you have chosen).
Do not try to "open" these files (except you could look at the .bmp icon files if you like) as often they are a file format that Windows does not recognise or understand.
Just follow the installation instructions very carefully. Usually it involves copying the files from where they extracted to (select them all with the mouse, right click, select copy) and then pasting them into the map folder on your SatNav (browse to the correct folder, right click in the window, select paste).
You will probably have to go through a set-up process on the unit itself to have them show up on the navigation screen
Hope this sets you on the way! Come back with any more problems if you have any, but please give us more information to go on. |

Ahh, yes it does. Sorry, I made a rash assumption that you'd be on XP.
The file is compresed with a program called WinZip. Windows XP has a version of it built in, but with earlier versions you have to install the program itself.
Do a Google search for it. If I remember correctly, the last time I looked, the website tried its best to get you to buy it, but there is a free demo version on there somewhere. |
