|
|
I have attempted to upgrade from TTN5 to TTN6 on my Dell Axim x50v, using TomTom Home. The 900MB Western Europe map download file was corrupt, so I am waiting for TomTom support on this.
However, as I'm going to the US in March, I also purchased the western US map. TT6 (part of the current offer free with map purchases) installed without any obvious problem, but it can't find the maps.
I downloaded to the SD card, though my old TT5 installation used maps from the CF card slot. TomTom Home doesn't seem to be able to see the CF slot.
Can anyone help? Maybe using TT Home with the x50v isn't a good idea? Can the maps be installed manually?
Thanks,

Use a card reader, TomTom Home will find the card and you can then install the map direct to the card, large file transfers using Active Sync are not the most reliable and too time consuming - Mike |

Thanks for that.
Now I need to get to grips with recovering my favourite custom POI locations and installing CheckPoint 6.0.

Why not take a look at the new POI download section (link on sites home page), at least you will be more up to date.
With version 6 you can have up to 100 custom POIs.
I can't comment on CheckPOI because I don't use it - Mike |

Solved most of my problems now - had to upgrade a neighbour's setup too and substituted my corrupt map zip file file for the one I downloaded for his upgrade and it worked
Have installed CheckPoint 6.0 and transferred the OVLs, all seems OK.
Only thing missing now are the old favourites - any ideas?
I tried copying and renaming the old .CFG file in the old map folder, but no luck.
Will have a look at updating my PocketGPSWorld safety camera database now.

If anyone can get TT6 AND W Europe/UK to work with an X50v please let me know how.
IMHO the map is too big for the internal RAM of an X50v, This is why TT doesn't support the X50. Smaller maps will work particularly the individual UK map. If you want to use the whole of Europe on one integrated map you may have to change your PDA.
I speak as a seriously p*ss*d off paid up user of NAV 6 with a legal copy of W Europe. TT support is utterly useless on this issue.
There is a solution but it is illegal! Hint small portion of a serious deluge.... |

This worked for me.
Move all the .OV2 and associated .BMP files out of the PDA and onto your hard disk.
Copy them back using My Computer, they apparently need reconverting to Windows Mobile format. Copying and hacking the .CFG file as recommended didn't work for me.
I moved everything over on a card reader using ZTreeWin. This was Ok for everything but the .OV2 files, strange. |

No one is using tomtom maps installed to the internal memory, they are too large. The map files go on to the storage card, the size of the map will (to some extent dictate the size of the card) but the cards are available up to 4GB so even the Europe map at just under 1GB will easily fit on a memory card, leave the internal memory on the PDA alone, sure install the application to it but don't try putting the map there - Mike |

How big is TT6 with full WE and the camera sites and POIs ? I guess a number of folk have this installed and I have just ordered a 1gb mini sd card for my Nokia E61 to run TT6 as above. I'm not intending to ude the card for anything else but TT _________________ TomTom 720

You can get it to fit on a 1GB card, only add the voices you really need (these take up far more room than the POI files) have a look at #11 HERE
Map 920MB
PostCode 10MB
Voices 4MB (more if you need to)
POI 3MB (thats a lot more than the camera database and spoken warnings)
So it will fit (file sizes above except the map are rough figures) - Mike |
