Spoken POI alerts for TomTom GO, Mobile, PocketPC and Palm

As I have no desire for spoken warnings myself, I've never got round to doing it (although before I made that last post I did download the Gatso 60 and the Mobile 70 and chop them together to produce Gatso 70 - it only took 30 seconds, but then I'm a sound editor by trade so it's second nature to me Wink

).
However, if people really need someone else to do it for them I'm quite happy to do it, although in the back of my mind is the worry that I would be violating some copyright of PGPSW's as (unlike other sources) they have never said that their files are in the public domain.
Given the OK from PGPSW, I would love to produce a full set (with the right filenames IF they will host them on the main site.

I'm guessing that the old chk file limitations is the main reason for the number of available files being as it is. As you know, there are a finite number of slots to put the voice files in that way. Plus, as with any breakthrough ( the ogg file method ) it will always take a while for things to catch up.

I hope PGPSW get back with a Yay or Nay on this one, as you are indeed the better candidate for jiggering and pokering the spoken warnings into short format from the sounds ( pardon the pun ) of it.

Thinks : Have you considered asking Ray of tomtomsatnav.info about offering the short form alternate files. And how do the Andy_Siddell, etc.. files on there fare re: public domain & copyright. Providing all original material is properly credited, I thought it was permissible to 'mix' a variant product, providing the integrity and usage were not in direct contravention to the purpose for which they were created.

Understandably, goes without saying really, there is the issue of monatary gain from modifying the original works - which wouldn't be of consequence on here or ttsn.info as they're free, but as for the 'Super Power Loaded Utils Disc' Sellers on eBay.....there's the rub!!!!

Perhaps these are also areas which I should rely on your guidance & experience though, Andy. Keeping me' fingers crossed tho'.

Got to say thanks for the tip in recommending Audacity for sound editing a few posts back. Thumbs Up

A mate now has excerpts from You Sexy Thing pumping out his One speaker in a few choice files ( I believe in miracles Arrive, Depart You Sexy Thing, and a couple more clips bolted on to some of the camera file oggs ). & an splash screen photo of Errol. I know, I know, it is a private joke but you can do similar for private or public reasons so I had to share & add my recommendation for this software.

This was by far the easiest audio tool I ever used and I cannot wait to hand his One back....got my running shoes on and everything. Joker

Wow i like the sounds you all have, and sorry to be a newbie at this, but i am a little computer literate, ie i have tomtom navigator 6 installed on a nokia n80, ive changed all the poi, and now have the spoken ones that say gatso 30, gatso 40 etc....( quite boring !!! ) anyway ive tried recording my own voice files for the spoken camera warnings from my nokia phone, they are amr files, so i convert them to ogg and then what do i do with them, as i believe you need 16 custom warnings?

Also i notice you have changed your depart voices etc to your own !!! wow how did you do all that, would much rather hear my voice than tomtoms or celebrity etc...

Realy hope somebody can help me as this been bugging me for days... any detailed instructions would be superb, i no uve read the instructions on here but just need a little more detailed.

Great advice, Andy. I have to admit not knowing if ogg worx on N80, still. If I understand correct, it is the data.chk method in use with 'readroo' ( 16 files is about right for that way, I believe ) and he wants to insert his own voice files. I think..........

PS. I've done a version of Andy_Siddell @ 22500 ( used generic where missing file - 20's, tbs & var ) for me to test. Compliments to the chef - Audacity rocks Exclamation

Hi and many thanx to you all, i do apologise gain for posting 3 times, i just wanted to get my post into the correct forum, and you guys certainly no what you are talking about,

I do hope theese will work on my n80, and yes i do have a convertor to convert amr to ogg and very good it is, but as you all say maybe its the data.chk file that need changing or cant be changed, im still a little confused but hopefully i will get there !!

If any of you find a direct link to your own spoken voices files that work ok on a n80, Please let me no, as there must be some way to make it work even if its just for the poi camera alerts, not to worried about the navigation voice changing to mine, but wow that would be good.

Andy, the post I mentioned 2 up from here is about 5 up from there. DOH!!

Ray ( Mr. Flanagan ) says Yup. He has carte blanche on the three alert files he offers and will happily post alongside in their shortened form. I have Andy Siddell to go, but alas, no 20 to work with so generic for that, tba & variable. I know not the early file of which you speak, but if you can find a 20, that'd be Grrrrrrrrreat (insert Tony Tiger icon HERE ).

Shall I continue with the other two voices or are you on it and finished by here?

Also, just to clarify, the shortened form is "Gatso 60", isn't it? No "Warning", "Ahead" or "Miles Per Hour". Just so we're pulling in the same direction, you see!! Diolch.

I have a Mio Digiwalker 339 running Pocket PC 4.20.1081 and Navigator 5.0. I have looked for the correct .chk file to download and there is no file available for Pocket PC 4.20..I have tried 2850,4890 to see if they work and I am still only getting default sound options. Please help as I feel I am 90 % there.

If you have TomTom Navigator version 5 installed and working then the ogg file method should work on your device (although I suspect you will be the first to try it) - we do know this new warning sound method works fine on TTN5,0 and newer. Please have a read through THIS Post for details, the part you need is under the section referring to the data.chk file method - Mike

I have had a reply from Ray too, and got the go-ahead for us to edit his files.

Could you possibly PM me with details of what you have done so far, as "Mullet" has also done some work with the Liz voice and I'd like to avoid us all repeating eachother's work if possible!
