Hi
I need to get the usa maps to go with my new tom tom v2 i got for xmas, I go there alot but only really need the florida region, I know they are about €50 on the tom tom website for a download, i am just wondering, is that the cheapest place to get them from? I have seen them offering them on dvd for free, but when I have tried to purchase it was asking for zip code, so assume that its just for usa residents, thanks in advance for any help and merry xmas |

nick, i think you will find that tomtom's till the end of year offer is the best bet...its only about £33 for a download.....the garmin maps are far more expensive so tomtom's offer is a relative bargain..also for a few extra quid i would get the full usa map cos you never know , you might need them one day.. _________________ *************************** |

Hi Zogman m8,
Its all your fault...
I've just bought today a TT one v2 from Halfrauds, didnt bother with a europe version as I never drive there, but I will be downloading the full US maps before the 20% offer runs out.
Feel a little guilty leaving the Garmin camp, the cheaper maps from TT, plus a few niggles with Garmin themselves have swayed me.
Now--if only I can work out how to upload poi's......

Wow you can change that...I was just thinking that "clear route" was a bit illogical on p3 of the menus, I want it next to the "navigate to..." & "find alternative" icons, oh well just as well I've got a couple of days off now to sort out that & a few other things.
(PS-did you manually reinput your i3 & nuvi's My favourites into the TT, or have you found a way to do utilise Easy GPS extracted files--sorry mods for going off topic there).

Scoobydooby,
I too wanted 'Clear Route' on the 1st page, plus an easy way to turn the sound off and on, so I made this simple menu. Give it a try and you can play with it.
On your TomTom card, create a folder called 'Sdk Registry' (Make sure you have the capital letters exactly as you see them here.)
Then open Notepad and copy the following text into it:
MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_MAIN|BTM_GPS_POSITION|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE1|Main Menu 1 of 2|
MENUITEM|TASK_NAVIGATE_TO|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_FIND_ALTERNATIVES|
MENUITEM|TASK_DELETE_ROUTE|
MENUITEM|TASK_SWITCH_SOUND|
MENUITEM|TASK_ADD_FAVORITE|
MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE2|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE2|Main Menu 2 of 2|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_PLAN_ATOB|
MENUITEM|TASK_SHOW_MAP|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_ROUTE_INSTRUCTIONS|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_PREFERENCES|
MENUITEM|TASK_ITINERARY|
MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE1|
Save this file into the 'Sdk Registry' folder with the name 'tomtom.mnu'.
If Notepad adds a .txt file extension, remove it.
To revert to the original menu, just erase the 'tomtom.mnu' file |

Zogman, there is a way to migrate Garmin 'my favourites' into the TT's 'favourites', I will create a new post covering this when I have a few mins.
Back on topic...
I will be downloading the full USA & Canada maps before the 20% offer runs out, I see that the download filesize is 958Mb, please excuse my ignorance, but does all of that need to be uploaded to the SD card?-if so I'm possibly going to need more than a 1Gb card by the time the TT files go on as well.
Can anyone confirm if the full USA & Canada maps + standard TT files (ie no extra voices etc) will fit onto a 1Gb card.

All very tongue in cheek m8, noticed over in the Garmin section that you had gone over to a TT product--and that got me thinking, I use(d) my i3 pretty much everday at work now and just fancied updating + had some Christmas money itching to be spent before the missus spent it, initially I was heading for a nuvi, but saw that you seemed impressed with the TT one v2 ......now I have one too-hence its your fault

Why does one question lead to another....
I see that the TT one v2 europe model uses Navteq maps, does that mean that the UK map is also Navteq or teleatlas (cos I've heard rightly or wrongly that the navteq maps are more accurate).
What size SD card comes with the TT one v2 europe model?
If the answers are UK = navteq, and the card is bigger than 256Mb, then I may regret having bought the regieonal model.

Nope, ONE v2 UK Regional is Tele Atlas-based. Only the ONE Europe and the Rider use Navteq.

I think this can be argued until the cows come home. I've heard that said on the forums, and I've also heard the exact opposite argued just as strongly.
I think they are probably much the same now, but if there is a mapping error on one and not the other in an area that affects you personally, you are bound to think one is better than the other.[/quote] |
