I have just downloaded a set of new set of POIs and is has crashed my i3.

POI loader seemed to work fine but when trying to add a few more, the loader now can't find the unit.

Despite doing a full reset I cannot now get beyond the opening "Where To" or View Map" screen. It will not switch off unless the batteries are taken out and nothing works. Any help appreciated .....

Well, that's very interesting. I've posted a warning on the Streetpilot/Nuvi forum, and on uk.rec.gps and contacted Darren (PGPSW) via email. I wonder how many more people are having this problem? This could get to be a very expensive, one way or the other ......

I've emailed Garmin for their advice but don't expect a reply for some time given the proximity to Christmas. Evil or Very Mad

Hi Ramases,

can you confirm you have tried a factory reset as discussed here:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=181827

Once complete take your i3 out to the car make sure it is running off external power with a good view of the sky and give it time (can be upto 15mins) to reaquire sat's.

If you have tried this does it still not work after this?

Hi Pootle

I can confirm I followed the correct reset procedure and accepted the delete option.

Have had the i3 running in my car on the drive for 20 minutes. It acquired reasonable satellite lock (three green bars - normal for this location) but fault remains as before.

Anything else you think I should try?

TIA.

Colin.

OK, following a bit of advice given elsewhere I've reset the device again and tried a combination of buttons while connected to the PC. The upshot is that POI Loader has now found the i3 but, of course, POIL reports a "communication error" then can't send any sort of POIs to the i3.

Help !!!!!!!!

Have managed to get my i3 working again using a fix suggested in the POI Launch thread ...

it was all a bit hit and miss though and took me ages. PLEASE DON'T DOWNLOAD THE NEW POIS IF YOU HAVE A GARMIN GPS until we know they're safe...

Merry Xmas.

Exactly the same problem here, will try the fix above but have brought a new card of ebay with an adaptor so I can read the corrupted card on the pc and delete the POI file.

In the meantime, what a terrible time of year to be without my little i3 :-(

If I get a speeding ticket I'm going to be really miffed.

Are we talking speed camera database POIs or something different here?

We're talking about the new general POI's that PGPSworld are now publishing.

I'm very happy bunny though because I've just managed to repair my i3.

I slipped the memory card out of the unit and then connected it to the computer, when POI Loader found the unit I asked it to remove the old POI file and then put the memory card in (sort of at the same time).

I did this a couple of times before I noticed the GPS was working normally (with the memory card inserted).

I've gone back to using MaFt's database and all is well again.

Good Luck people

Merry Christmas

Apologies just read:

3) We have had some reports of the POIs being incompatible with some Garmin Nuvi and i3 systems. While we are investigating this we have removed the Garmin download option.

you could try the beta version of poiloader as it gives you an option to remove poi's from your garmin unit.
