|
|
Hello Everyone
Ive built a small app for the smartphone especially for all you hikers with gps units and smartphones, SmartHiker.
It shows the following information:
Current Lat / Long
Current OSGB Grid reference (UK only)
Current Speed
Current Direction of Travel
Average Speed
You can download the .cab file from www.bbpsoftware.co.uk/files/SmartHiker_SMP.ARMV4.CAB and you will also need the OpenNetCF support files if you don't already have them www.bbpsoftware.co.uk/files/OpenNETCF.SDF.SMP.ARMV4.CAB
Just copy both to the phone via active synch then navigate to the .cab files using the phone and run them to install.
Would appreciate any feedback in this thread for now, thanks.

Thanks for your effort. Certainly appreciate it.
Iam having some problems though.
I Installed it on Mpx220. I am using Holux GR-230 BT. I could not connect to GPS from within Smarthiker.
Default serial port was COM6. This was not available from Smarthiker. I also tried editing registry to use COM7 which was available still no luck.
Any idea's? |

Hello
Thanks for your feedback. The ports drop down on the settings page is created by looking for com ports in the registry. If COM6 is not displayed it means COM6 is not in the "Drivers\Active" part of the registry.
Not being an expert on different GPS devices Im not sure why this is? Im guessing you can get it to work on the smartphone with other GPS applications?
If you can take a look in the "Drivers\Active" part of the registry, the COM ports should be defined in here as subkeys.
Anyone else having this problem or using the same GPS unit?

I have just got the phone couple of days back. I have more learning to do. I will sure give more time when I get around other issues. I read on another forum that you need some sort of registry hack to use Bluetooth for other devices.
Working on that. I will update as soon as I can. |

My MPX220 uses port 6 and I was not able to change that (even with hacking the registry). And it is not listed in devices/active.
What should I do? I thougth about making some kind of fake entry so port 6 will be found by the software but somehow I do not like that idea to much.
thanks

Hi
I haven't installed this yet (I have an MXP220 and fear that I could face the same issues as other people).
However, I was looking for something similar to this, primarily to use on a golf course, but would like to know whether it is possible to add a couple of extra parameters.
It would be really useful to be able to measure linear distance to the nearest 5 yards (or more accurate if possible). Ideally this would be measured from a reference point triggered by the pushing of a button.
The second, and less useful thing for me (but probably more useful for a hiker) would be altitude (meters or feet above sea level).
I have no idea how easy these things are to add (not understanding the data stream that comes from a GPS device).
Thought I would give some feedback, feel free to completely ignore :D
Thanks! |

hi there, two points:
- I had some troubles installing it, it only worked when i installed the opennet on the internal memory, not when installed on memory card.
- anyplans on extending it, it would like to log my tracks to an external file. cannot seem to find a software program that does that....I saw gpstuner, but that one seems to 'f*ckup' and make my phone not reacting any more (spv c500) |

I am running WM5 and installed both OpenNetCF and Smarthiker to my card. When installing SH it said I need to install opennet even though I had. When I run SH i get a "file or assembly name not found error message" and it wants opennetcf. |
