FREE POIs to Download For Your SatNav!
PocketGPSWorld.com have several hundred Points of Interest (POIs) categories available for download right now - for FREE!
As POIs have increased in popularity over the years, we have decided to promote this much neglected area of our site. Lutz and Richard have put together a brand new shiny interactive POI community section that we are inviting everyone to become heavily involved in. Although we currently have a comprehensive selection of UK POIs, we want many more! After you have downloaded your choice of POIs, we want your submissions and we want your comments! We are also asking the community at large to help us with our initial 'soft' launch of all other countries.
We currently have several 100 categories including Pubs, Hotels, Theatres, Supermarkets, Banks, Hospitals, ATMs, Wi-Fi Hotspots, National Trust and Cinemas to name but a few. We even have Dr. Who film locations - you never know when they'll come in handy! :o)
Click here for the POI download page.
Please visit http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=POIs&ShowSubmit to submit your own (non-copyrighted) POIs. Maybe your company or organisation wants inclusion of all its public offices/branches/facilities/areas in the database? Please send them in for consideration and, if accepted, we will include them for free.
Important
To download the latest version of the PocketGPSWorld.com POI Database or to submit new POIs you need to be registered as a user on the site and currently logged in.
Not registered yet?
Click here now to register for free and download unlimited POIs for FREE. Registration takes less than a minute and will also enable you to post in the forums. Your privacy is important to us, we will not add your email to a marketing list or send you unsolicited emails.

There is an issue with IE7. You can use it to download from the Mobile site, though. _________________ Tim |

you cannot at the moment, we are still working on the mobile side of things.
Have you tried selecting just a single subcategory? That normally works with IE7 _________________ Mike Barrett |

One Point ;)
I can't download the POI's in Firefox on Linux. I'm getting:
"Error in selection criteria
Please select at least one category or subcategory." |

But you can see the checkboxes ok? Your browser needs to have Javascript enabled for this to work. _________________ Lutz

I can. Still no joy downloading the POI DB.
However, I can download the safety cam DB fine!
I'll have a look around and see if I can spot anything odd. |

I'm also using IE7 & Vista RTM, the process seems to work correctly, but there appears to be a problem with the ZIP file creation.
No matter what I select a POI.ZIP file is saved to the local disk, but trying to expand generates errors, either its corrupt or empty. The other thing thats strange is the ZIP file size does change depending on the number of POI selected. |

SpeedCam,
why is it strange that the ZIP size changes? The ZIP file is generated dynamically, according to the selected categories.
Do you have the option of using a different browser? This all works fine on IE6, Opera, and FireFox. _________________ Lutz
