Hi there!
8O New maps download around 90minutes on a 1gig broadband into Tom Tom Home
Make a back up copy of the old card contents by opening a new folder in desktop and move it to one side of the screen. Then remove SD card from Tom Tom and place in card reader and open it then into edit and select all which highlights all the files and folders then left click and hold down and drag them into the new open folder on the desk top which should be just to one side of the new open folder and hey presto they should all reappear in new folder! Might be wise to count the files in both folders to make sure you got them all. Thats your back up done rename New Folder TOM TOM Backup Repeat the procedure and make a further Tom Tom back up called B U 2 exactly as you just did. Now you have two back up folders on your desk top
Now you must have a 1gb SD card for the instalation of the new maps of Western Europe these are seamless and full continental street maps for most areas. AND DON'T FORGET TO UNLOCK THE SD CARD the little slider to the left side should be in the up position to unlock!
Open backup no 2 folder on the desk top and deleat the Great Britain map folder inside it Put the 1gb SD card in the card reader and open it It should be empty if not format it. Open the back up No 2 the one where you deleated the Great Britain file from and again into edit and select all and left click and hold and drag them into the empty 1gb SD card. You should now have the old files less the Great Britain map folder in the 1gb SD card.
Attach the Tom Tom to the computer via the USB cable and go into HOME and install the Western European maps which you have to tick the box on the left of it and install it to your devise by clicking on the install button top right of Home screen should take around 20 minutes. Disconnect Tom Tom after making sure its shut down from Home by clicking on the my device icon to the right of "log on" at the bottom left of Home screen. and remove from USB cable Remove the SD card from your Tom Tom and replace in the card reader and open the SD card and check that you have the Western European Map folder inside along with all the other bits and pieces.
If the old Tom Tom folder is still there you might be able to drag your wanted bits accross into the new western europe folder or the voices folder ect But if need be just download the latest speed camera data base into the Western European map folder after which deleat the old Tom Tom folder from the SD card.
This new map only just fits onto the 1gb card with not too much extra room but it does do it and works fine.
This might be telling grandma how to suck eggs to most of you But if there are any new comers like myself to this strange world of .ov2 and oggs then if it will help them like it did me then Have a Great Christmas

Done all onto a 2 GB card-- and seems to be working -- transfered (cut and pasted) all of my Poi's etc.. from Great_Britain_plus-map
and from my France_plus-map
Seems to be working -- speed cams etc -- had to reset sounds.. no problem do it better later...
What I have lost at the moment is my favourites -- (grandmas house -- school etc etc) the file with the star.... I do hope we haven't lost them from both old maps...
How do I find this file - Name etc.. - and can I cut and paste it over...
Do I put it into the the Base directory or the Western Europe map folder
I am cutting and pasting from my back-up on my desk top to the new 2GB card _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

just found the other forum and the MapSettings.cfg" on v6 software. file etc..
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=49836&highlight=favourites
I renamed the newly created one with new name (just in case) and then cut and pasted across into Western europe... works for England...
now if you would go slowly on how to "simply convert " these into a new POI file I would be happy...
Specially if it is cut and paste...
Next
I seem to have two POI files now with the same Icon but differing things in them -- how do you change Icons...
Thanks for the help guys -- we will get there... never worked like this before -- feel like a programmer _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

Time zone seems to be GMT +10 by default, just changed mine!
Just loaded the new WE map, the Ashton-under-Lyne Northern Bypass is still missing despite being a major route change and now open for 2 years(gave them the benefit of the doubt last year).
Sorry, but this is disgraceful for a main road years in planning. What do they do for the money?

Withregards to the missing favourites after downloading the Western European maps! I have now got the ordered 2gb SD card and have installed the European maps and an earlier backup before the European download which has my favourites in Now I can just alternate in Tom Tom One between the two maps if I need the favourites. All fit on the 2gb card and it's still only half full -or half empty Dennis |
