looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help, i've just purchased a tomtom one v2 off ebay for £75 which i thought was a bargain, it came with an original 256mb card but the card has been wiped, i already have a version 1 tt one and i thought i could just copy my card and it would run in the later one but its asking me for an activation code--do i get this code from tomtom or do i need to buy a card with the software on already--i'm starting to think i've been ripped off! |

The Activation code comes with the device in a credit size card.... without it you are lost.... i am not sure if your tomtom one SD card will work, on ur TT1 V2. But i;m sure someone on this site will be able to answer your question. _________________ TomTom ONE V2 (GB) Downloaded Europe Maps

The activation code is needed to unlock the MAP, and I'm afraid is designed to stop you doing exactly what you were planning (ie use the same map on two devices at the same time).
The actual operating software is available for free, but if you want to use both units, you really should be looking at a new map (just released at 20% off 'til end of the month) 47.96 EURO for the UK and Eire version.
Have you tried contacting the person you bought it from? Unlikely you'll get anywhere, but worth a try. |

yes i've been on to the person i bought it off, he had a 87 feedback so i though it'd be ok, he said i should have checked first so i called him a con man and now he's disappeared off radar--i imagine he knew what he was doing--where can i get the software from to put it on the card? |

Hi nickmurphy,

Was it advertised as having a wiped 256MB card?
TomTom will probably not help you.
You may want to buy a map from TomTom, but you will also need the latest software too. The software should be free, but you will have to buy the map and either download it, buy it on SD card or on DVD.

If you didn’t know it was a non working TT ONE then yes you have been. It would be best to contact the seller and see if you can sort it out.

nick ,a tom tom v2 for £75 is very cheap so a cost of £33 to download a uk map from tom tom will be worth it... _________________ *************************** |

£75? I bet it's still got bits of broken windscreen embedded in it!
Unofficially you "should" be able to plug you orig One V1 SD card in. |

Oh and just to correct the above, it's not the "Actvation Code" that comes on the card, but the "Product Code" (for the map).
To get an "Actvation Code", you have to go to ttcode.com and enter both the Product code and a "Device code" specific to your hardware unit (viewable on one of the menu screens). An activation code is then generated which you can enter on-screen when required.
The maps installed in new units are pre-activated, so they work straight out of the box on that unit.
Software is available from the TomTom website itself, but the latest versions can only be installed via their "Home" program, (which needs a working unit to work!)
V5.45 for the One is available HERE. Once that is working you can use Home to get the latest version. |

well thanks for your advice--i'm now using my original 128mb card in my tomtom one version 1 and i'm using a copy of that card in my version 2 and it seems to be working ok--i think i'm still going to buy a new card for my version 2 because i've been told the maps are a bit more up to date on the later one-cheers! |

If you have a blank card in a Card Reader, or a Device, you select, in Device | Change Device, the drive letter that corresponds.
Been there, done that. That's how I loaded my 2GB with Software and Map.;) _________________ Richard
