Hi I have a TT1v1, with GB map 6.05.

TomTom web site is offering the whole of europe (version 6.6) for download, nearly 1Gb, for £55!

Sounds a good deal, am I missing something?

Mick

Only the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary... Laughing

Sorry, that's a poor joke (there's lots of upset people who had these on their old maps, who feel they should also be on the new ones too).

I think its a good deal as well, and am quite tempted (I only have UK at the moment).
There is of course the extra cost of a new SD card to fit it on. There is some debate going on as to whether a 1GB card is QUITE big enough (once you have the system files / voices / POIs / camera data etc plus some neccessary "thinking space"). Let us know how you get on.

Oh Thanks, any other guinea pigs about who can testify :D

Mick

BTW: I have a 1Gb card I could test, my only concern is how long I'd have to leave my pc on to download 1Gb of data, and how reliable tomtoms server is. Do you think its a torrent file?

The download time will be dependent upon your internet connection, assuming you have broadband this won't be an issue, probably less than one hour total download time if you have a 2MB/s connection (the maths don't stack up to the figures, but this is a realistic time based on TomTom's upload capability and network traffic).
If you have a dial up connection find someone with broadband to achieve the download - Mike

On my 1GB Card I have 1 Voice, Jane, about 60 POI's and have 40MB of Unused Memory.

So far it's working OK.

Took a couple of hours, stuck a freshly formatted card into my One and Home installed everything just fine. Didnt even have to activate the map. It probably did that automatically as I was logged on to TomTom thru Home.

Some of the new roads in my area are on this new map, so quite happy that its an updated version to my old map and I now have Western Europe.

Mick

Oh and after installing cameras, splash screen, colour schemes etc.. I still have 43.5Mb free space on my card.

Ooh new feature: My TT1 now tells me the speeds of certain roads. And dare I say it.....Its quite accurate 8O

We live in an area that has the speed limit changing all the time while still on the same road, even dual carriageways. And although I was a little dubious at first, it (so far) has been spot on going thru 30/40/50/60/70 changes! Just wait till I get to work, (lotta drivin) then we'll see Wink

Oh and the new map seems to have slightly improved graphics, I now have shadows where roads crossover.

Hi, I downloaded the Map Of Western Europe yesterday because TomTom wouldn't give me an activation code for my replacement Rider (the usual mount pin problem) as I couldn't prove the Rider had been exchanged by Halfords. (the original maps of Europe had already been activated twice). Anyway, as I need the European maps I had to buy them again so went for the 20% off offer. It took 2 hours to download on a 1meg connection and everything fits onto a 1gb card with room to spare. There was no sign of the promised seperate"Canary Islands Map" and the new Europe Map has definitely got some minor roads missing which are on my previous European maps (Navigator 5 upgrade 2005) Also there are less POIs and towns missing from Norway which are on the old maps which I can still use on my Ipaq. I'm pleased I didn't pay the full price for this seamless map, I'll be pestering TomTom for my Canary Isles maps soon.
Anybody had any luck with an external speaker on the Rider? I've tried a Motorola HF800 and it doesn't work. Cheers Sad

It 's been reported elsewhere that the original information about the Canaries map was in error. The Canaries Island map is ONLY included on the SD card and DVD versions of the Western Europe map.

OK for me basic questions...
Map of Western Europe

Has it upgraded the UK maps?

Has it upgraded France and Germany maps?

Is it a seamless door number to door number map?

Not important but...

As an aside I have a 4 Meg broadband-- How long would it take??

Yes you can plan a single route from your home to Alicante in Spain.

Don't know as I bought mine on the DVD.

Certainly less than an hour. Depends a lot on the web traffic but could be done in about 40mins.
