Hi, has anyone experince with sony TMC? whats the difference between 70T and 70TW? I was told by dealer that sony TMC doesnt give you uppdated route while you r driving. Can anyone compare between garmin, tomtom and sony TMC. I am inclined towards buying Sony TW as the display is very good. |

Yes, no idea, not true, no, ok.
As in - you know I've used the Sony TMC. I imagine the 70TW to be a wide screen version? The Sony U70T very definitely offers the abilty to avoid jams (or not). The Garmin unit does too.
I can say the Garmin Streetpilot picks up traffic MUCH better than the Sony in the UK, at least for me. MUCH better - virtually 100% of the time so far. Sony was about 50% at best.
TomTom I've only used the "phoning up to get the traffic" system rather thant eh new FM based radio system - costs about 10p a shot on my tariff, but works everytime of course. Also offers re-routing as a choice. |

Hi Dippy,
Thanks for replying. i have just returned my Nuvi 350 and wanted to buy sony/tomtom. Reason - I didnt like the mapping of nuvi at junctions. After using sony for so long, i have tasted blood. anyway, when i asked the dealer of media market here, he told me that sony TMC works only at the start of the journey, but not if there is new traffic info while you are driving. Is that correct? Sounds absurd. But i do not trust these dealers as may want to sell other units more. Since you have used sony extensively, please answer following questions:
1) whether TMC gives new info as well (while driving)
2) is there a possibility to load POI now. i know nit waswnt earlier.
I am a big fan of sony even though i admit the customer care is far far below to garmin and tomtom. i am still awaiting for the sony 81t but no news when it will be out and what price they r going to keep.
thanking you in advance

Sony 70 absolutely positively certainly does give you traffic information as you go, and pops up with the nice lady saying "please check your screen" and a message asking if you want to avoid it or not. You can then "unavoid" a jam later if you want, but it's definitely dynamic.
POIs are only via third party product still. |

good that i didnt trust the dealer. he was giving me all wrong info. So the POIs CAN be downloaded through third parties like POI warner etc. Of course the other lengthy option is your one. But I hope in the new sony we do not have such problems. i was looking at the demo and it was showing POI even in 3 D mode. With plans to have a dedictated website for nav , i guess the support is going to improve. By the way, a very interesting discussion is taking place in GPS passion forum on nuvi and POI. her is the link. i am sure. you also have some points to add. http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=72505 |
